I used to work for the company upstairs in the same building as the inspiration for this diorama. There was a video where he went out and let a lady in after hours and I was like holy fuck I know those stairs… and that door… for about 6 months I walked past that door and never saw the guy, the blinds always closed. But eventually I found out they discovered a tenant filming porn in the building and they kicked him out. And I was like I fucking new it!

5819·1 year agoI don’t actually have a problem with this. If people are stupid enough to admit to a crime or engage in criminal activity on a platform that they don’t control, that’s on them. I put this as the next step of evolution from people who would commit a crime on youtube for views then get shocked pikachu’d when the police arrest them for it. They have no one to blame but themselves, they brought a 3rd party AI company into it and they did not consent to be an accomplice and if there is any company out there with the resources to have AI scan conversations to flags to send to the police with good accuracy, openAi would definitely be at the front of it.

2·1 year agoYeah, no doubt different facilities run things differently. Depends on where you are, who governs it and it’s security level. Low security gets more privileges than medium, high, or maximum security. Though for us medium security and lower could have small games, dice, dominoes, etc during rec hours.

5·1 year agoIf you’re rolling D20s, but there are also D4s, D6s, D8s, D10s, D12s, and a D10 Percentage die for 5e, and some spells require multiple of the same dice, so rolling 6d6 is a very real scenario, so you can have plenty of dice to use to find variations to get to 7 with different sided dice.

6·1 year agoDon’t worry, there are dice in (at least some) prisons, every cell block had at least one D&D group going with 4-6 people, and they used dice.

This goes back even further, Randall is referencing the ps3 security, that has a constant instead of a random number. That allowed failOverflow to remove one variable and reverse the private key to sign ps3 apps.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•My password is not accepted because it is too longEnglish
5·1 year agoThe problem is a password hash is a fixed length regardless of the password, so if this is implemented correctly there is no need for a maximum password length. These things raise my security flag because it makes me think they are storing the password in plain text instead of doing proper practice and storing the hash only.

10·2 years agoMake enough C macro definitions and you can certainly do that, I did my final project in my high school programming class in the 90’s like that, made macros to simulate QBasic syntax and then just wrote it in basic, the end result is the macros converted everything into valid C++ and it compiled fine. Fortunately my teacher for that class was cool, and he was amused by it and since it compiled with no warnings and did what it was supposed to do, I got full marks for it.

politics @lemmy.world•Did RFK Jr.’s Presidential Campaign Just Flame Out?English
0·2 years agoFrom your own usa today article:
according to the poll of 1,261 adults surveyed May 21 through May 23. It found third-party candidates Cornel West and Jill Stein — not Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — are making the difference, pulling support away from Biden.
Emphasis added by me. And I agree, with the article, other 3rd party candidates are likely to pull more from Biden than Trump, but also in agreement with your article, not RFK Jr. And it goes back to people pushing RFK Jr as a threat to Biden, when in reality he’s not at all a threat to Biden. Its FUD being pushed by bad actors and people are falling for it and is distracting people from the real threats to Biden, which is Cornel West and Jill Stein.

politics @lemmy.world•Did RFK Jr.’s Presidential Campaign Just Flame Out?English
0·2 years agoI can’t see a world where RFK costs Biden a higher percentage than Trump in any state, that seems like FUD being spread by bad actors. I am not saying anyone here is a bad actor, I am just thinking that people are fearing the worst possible outcome and bad actors are praying on that to push an agenda and because of Wizard’s First Rule (“People are Stupid. People will believe anything because they want to believe it or because they are afraid it might be true.” [Amusingly that quote comes from an Author that if he were still alive would probably vote for Trump]) it spreads, just like most other misinformation.
You can’t just say he’ll cost Biden 0.1% in Michigan without also considering how much he would affect trump, if he costs Biden 0.1% and Trump 0.9% he still only gets 1% of the vote, but it hurt Trump 90% more than it hurts Biden, which in the end will actually improve Biden’s position. And the newly (within the last 4 years) never-Trumper republicans who would never-Biden as well who votes for RFK Jr can’t be counted as a “biden” vote since they would never vote for him to begin with, if anything its a vast majority of 2020 Trump votes that are shifted to RFK Jr.

politics @lemmy.world•Did RFK Jr.’s Presidential Campaign Just Flame Out?English
0·2 years agoI don’t get how it would help trump, RFK Jr is such a right-wing nutjob, I don’t think anyone who would vote for Biden would vote for him instead. Its much more likely to pull votes from Trump instead since he’s just the right kind of nutjob to appeal to the extreme Q-Anon supporting far right who would otherwise vote for Trump.

I have blink outdoor cameras, not the best out there, but very usable video, indoor work the same, you can put a USB flash drive in the sync module and use it on the local network, i use my 2.4 band for that and my home automation. Recorded clips stay on my flash drive locally, and I just say no to the subscription if it asks. All cameras connect to the same sync module. Have no complaints.
