I mean, actively silencing people because they can’t afford a lawyer to defend themselves is pretty much all you need to be a piece of shit. Parody has repeatedly been upheld as fair use, however you still have to appear and defend yourself and that takes time and money, more than most people have. So in effect C&D letters become one sided sledgehammers when used against average people.

To be fair, she’s heavily protected, to the point where criticism will get you banned and she throws around cease and desist letters to anyone parodying her work.

She has more than earned the scorn she gets, she just also happens to be a woman on the internet and that comes with sexism by default.

  • Just because it’s super important.

DO NOT TALK ABOUT CRIMES YOU COMMIT OR POST THEM ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

There are two types of criminals, those that keep their mouth shut and those getting arrested.

If you somehow get approached by police, DO NOT SPEAK TO THEM AT ALL. Explicitly state that you want a lawyer to represent you and that you will not be speaking or answering any questions. The only questions you have to legally answer (in most jurisdictions) is to identify yourself. Once you have done that, ask for a lawyer and SHUT THE FUCK UP.

There’s a time and place to talk and it’s with your lawyer present.

  • A man walked to the newspaper stand to buy a copy every single day. The man would take one look at the cover then simply throw the paper into the trash and go about his day.

Eventually the shopkeep became curious after months of this behavior and he decided to ask the guy what he was doing.

“Looking for an obituary.” the man replied.

“Obituaries are in the back of the paper, not the cover.” the shopkeeper said, a little confused.

“Not the obituary I’m look for.” was the response.
