  • If God is real then God must die.

If God is real then God doesn’t love the creatures on this planet. This sentient creature created a reality filled with suffering of the highest order.

A counter argument to this is this:

We cannot understand God’s plan as we aren’t capable of understanding it because we aren’t God.

This argument is quite stupid in my opinion. Zeus raped people. Is Zeus bad? I think we can agree that Zeus is bad. If a super advanced alien created a human zoo, put humans in it without their consent and also put in wasps whose stings make the humans want to kill themselves. Would we say that the alien is benevolent? Would we say “oooh, Mr. Alien is too advanced for us to perceive their plan, but Mr. Alien definitely loves us”? No, we would try to escape and kill that alien so that it can never harm us ever again. Why does God get special treatment then?

  • Quite a few assumptions being made and quite a lot of hyperbole.

    • The richest man in the world is not representative of the human race. Also, settling Mars (within timelines that musk is suggesting) is not treated seriously by any institution with significant power.
    • We aren’t putting earth’s ability to host life in jeopardy. Not even close. Yes, human caused climate change is bad. Worst case outcomes lead to most human settlements going under water and extinctions in a manner that the planet has seen only a few times. But again, not even close where we need to abandon earth cuz we “ruined it” or whatever. Not even nuclear war would lead humanity to come to this conclusion.

As for why a civilization should be interested in spreading out as much as possible in case it wants to survive:

    • spreading out reduces the probability of extinction. Right now, one gamma ray burst that’s close enough, and that is aimed at earth can render the entirety of humanity extinct. But if we were more spread out, not all humans would have to die. The same logic can be applied to relativistic weapons aimed at earth.
    • spreading out gives us access to a lot of resources. Earth’s gravity and atmosphere makes it hard to manufacture and launch megastructures. Megastructures can allow us to create really cool stuff.
    • many humans find exploring the universe really cool!

If alien species are anything like us, I highly doubt that they’d come to the conclusion that you’ve posited.

A phone is quite likely one of the most touched and seen item by the user in their day. For something like that, tactile sensation, ergonomics and looks kinda do matter, no?

I can’t be the only one who receives genuine pleasure from handling a clean, smooth glass brick every day, right?

And yes, phones are expensive and important. That’s why we just… Use them carefully and not drop them.

If I purchased an expensive car, I’d use it carefully. I wouldn’t cover it up with plastic protection mats or whatever you protect it in case I crash.

And again, about dropping the phone… Just… Don’t drop it? How does a drop even happen? Is it really that hard not to drop a phone?

I think I’ll be able to empathize with extraterrestrial alien religious rituals first before I can empathize with people who modify carefully crafted ergonomics of their phones with cases and stupid shit like this.

“Oh, my phone needs that ugly ass round thingy and a transparent case that turns yellow within a month because I tend to drop it”

How… How about NOT DROPPING IT??? The beautifully crafted materials of your phone, that beautiful glass, the thinness… all of that is gone because you decided to slap a cheap ass case on it…

  • Weeeeell… Depends…

How does one define “superhuman”? Better than humans at a task demanding intelligence? Computer vision AI used for radiology is superhuman. Does it want to conquer the world? No. Chess AI is superhuman. Yet, it does what humans designed it to do.

The scope of the goals of the AI model matter. Now, we have to ensure that the goals of this AI align with the goals we set out for it. It’s definitely not impossible to ensure this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
