I was randomly banned without warning. I was posting and next thing I know, I had a message saying I’ve been suspended permentaly and to check my inbox. It was a generic message with “repeatedly violating multiple rules of conduct” and I was so confused. I followed their directions by checking my other account and i got nothing in it until hours later when I got that exact same message. Both appeals were denied. I’ve also contacted support but I hear they never respond back or it can take 2-3 months.

Has anyone been able to get their perm suspension uplifted or just create a new account and not get banned for ban evasion? How did you do it?

I’ve only been banned by device and email because my husband and son didn’t get banned. We all share the same wi fi.

You can create a new account using VPN and that should work, but I’ve had cases where they caught on to it and banned that account for ban evasion as well. Honestly I just hate what reddit has become so I just lurk there occasionally now and don’t feel any need to create an account

reddit is too smart for VPN, usually that gets you shadowbanned eventually. only way is to use more advanced methods like proxies, anti-detect browsers, or get a cheap new android and different (but this is a money sink, since its mostly meant for using trying to earn money on reddit)

YOU CAN check on your r/shadowbanned if you been banned, theres also one for comment removal, incase you want to check if your last comment was removed.

i was recently shadowbanned on my only account that was flagged, because a mod removed a comment one sub, after that i checked shadowbanned, and i was, currently appealing it, but i dont have my hopes up. because previously my other accounts were sitewide banned with appeals rejected.

they look at your fingerprint, browser, posting behaviour, comments, device, ,etc. your husband and son have different metrics from you thats why they arnt banned, unless you were mass-botting then its possible to ban all accounts.

i believe the message you recieved was an AI banning you thats why.

I left before the IPO, so no. From everything I’ve heard, they don’t have a process for ban reversals aside from their seemingly useless appeals “system”.

I might add, they’re showing you how much they value you with this opaque ban. Don’t go back to an abusive platform. Don’t give them value by adding to their MAU stats.

oh yea they are pretty arbitrary on ban appeals, some had success some dont. like if you had ban evasion, or multi-account botting, its probably not going to get approved. and recently the reasons for many bans is pretty nebelous, now they dont tell the infraction of the ban, that way its so vague they can interpret it as, “oh you did this here and here that banned you”.

recently a comment was removed from a niche sub from my account by a mod, and i was instantly shadowbanned.

Wait, many users are being banned right now?

I never ban evaded and I don’t know how I would multi bot. Reddit says we can have more than one account just as long as we don’t break the rules. I followed what their policy said. They even say make a new account if you don’t like your username but I’m afraid their bot will just ban you for posting in the same subreddits you did with your other account or if you get baned, your posts on your older account could show up as a ban evasion if one of the mods comes across your older post. I’m speculating this is how I was banned.

I guess shreddit all your comments first before moving onto a new account but what if reddit sees that as you trying to get around the rules and stuff when they said you would need to make a new account if you want to change your username.

I could probably do it if I really wanted to. Create a new account at one of my library’s computers, use a separate phone to access reddit with that account, etc. It’s not worth the hassle though, for me at least. Reddit sucked up way too much of my time. Honestly, it feels like January ended just last week.

i was able to do that before the pandemic, go on the university computers to create various accounts, when one was sub banned i just avoided the subs in the new ones, now that i have no access to it anymore, and going back would be super awakward, since the staff, prof recognized me the many times i went there at odd times just to use reddit.(originally i was using ti for job hunting/resume reviewal.

You are shit outta luck friend.

Same exact shit happened to me. Both my accounts got banned without warning. Some nonsense about “violation of TOS”. I appealed asking what rule I broke and it was instantly declined.

I opened a new email on a new Internet source and made a fresh account. It got banned withing 30 minutes for “ban evasion”. I literally do not know how they even know it’s me. There was absolutely nothing that tied me to the old banned accounts. I used completely different information for everything and like I said a new Internet source as well as device.

They have your Internet fingerprint or whatever and you’re cooked for good. Enjoy your new life with lots of free time or just doing it all into Lemmy.

Fuck reddit and their ban happy bots.

if your using the same IP or DEVICE they know its you, even with new accounts. i think my other accounts survived this long until the great purge in feb 12-13th, is i created most of them on a university computer lab, seperate from my home. wish i could go back to the university computer labs, but it would be awkward, although the school does allow general wifi usage for the public, but its extremely slow.

if you have nearby colleges with wifi that guests can access you can make acc that way.

Yeah fingerprinting can isolate you pretty well. The whole ad/ marketing industry ‘depends’ on it. If you have webgl enabled you’re fucked because they’ll get a whole bunch of information on your monitors and gpu which is a good identifier even if two people have the same gpu. Apart from webgl, there are also tracking techniques with Javascript, invisible pixels, local storage, ip addresses, etc.

If you want to start protecting yourself a bit more then look into librewolf (a hardened Firefox fork) and turn off Javascript unless you explicitly allow it on a given site. There’s more you can do but like i said this would be a “start”

I think that’s just a Firefox acct that uses firefox sync if you enable it. To remove it turn off sync and i imagine you can log out of the acct.

If the Trump administration is over in 4yrs they may revert the bans. That’s all it’s down to, covering their own backs. They’ll Nazi up if it keeps their company afloat. Look at them all doing the same. It’s odd I can still access my account but perma ban is displayed… usually it would be “This account has been removed”. So go figure on that… I feel it is an act of display and an action that can be changed.

they do randomly unban people eventually, just not the serial repeaters. and they know they are in the wrong banning regular using with questionable “violations” that should be temp bans.

I hear they disable/delete your account but they let me keep mine. “Oh we will let you log in but you can no longer post. Oh we will let you vote still and play this nice little game for April Fools in r/field. Oh we will let you have a new account for a half hour to modmail the admins. Oh we will let you save posts and delete your own comments.”

      My reddit experience right now.

So you’re saying your account doesn’t get banned until you post and bam, banned.

Pointless having a unbanned reddit account if you can’t post.

I’ve honestly had no interest. I got banned in January, I was a member for 9 years. Can say I would doom scroll or do at first it sucked but now that it’s been a while I just don’t care. Now reddit is just for tutorial posts and stuff when I need it.
