For those of us running GrapheneOS, Beware that the latest update to the Target store app for Android requires Google Services Framework (GSF) and does not work properly on GrapheneOS, even, apparently, with the compatibility layer enabled.

Fluff piece confirming the app was rewritten

If you use Aurora app store, you can download the previous, still functional, version using this version code:

versionCode 1906002333

This version can only be installed via Aurora after uninstalling the newer version.

Update: The un-updated app no longer functions for me. That was fast (2 weeks).

I have been having problems with the website lately on Mull/Librewolf. Search results are just a bunch of blank boxes.

Yeah. I have found that Target store website works (though not great) on GrapheneOS with both Vanadium and Firefox.

But the Target website seems to have the usual “hired developers who don’t actually know what Async means” usability bugs:

      • input boxes randomly reset when something that was background loading finishes
      • validation routines give meaningless messages because the JavaScript hasn’t waited for the server to return an actual result.

I do find the Target website usable with enough patience, but I haven’t decided if I’ll keep shopping there after the app stops working.

(I assume my current un-updated Target app will stop working in a few months.)

I used to use OurGroceries (with network disabled) and that app stopped working on any android without a signed-in Google account. The only thing these measures are going to achieve is push people to foss which I’m fine with.
