Despite Eurovision’s denials, an analysis reveals that the broadcast silenced crowd discontent during Israeli singer Eden Golan’s performance.
Since I can’t pin @fluxx1@lemm.ee’s comment:
The article is new, but the event it is concerned is ESC 2024 rather than yesterday’s broadcast.
/f
This article is about last year’s performance, not this year’s. Just FYI.
There was a great bit in the UK broadcast where Graham Norton gave the game away by saying “I don’t know what you can all hear at home. A very mixed response here in the arena” 😆
Big Graham gives zero fucks. Love it.
Eurovision is a farce anyways. There is no way Germans are dumb enough to vote crappy musicians that get last place every time.
Let’s just say there have been some prospective bands that tried to represent germany in the past few years, namely Electric Callboy and Feuerschwanz. Both have been disregarded by some undemocratic processes through “experts” deciding against them. So, we understand it as german broadcasters being unwilling to win, either they refuse to host the next episode of the ESC or want someone else to get that PR boost. Maybe Israhell, which is lacking any kind of positive news due to their ongoing genocide in gaza?
I’ve heard that it’s because their selection process is dumb and dominated by a handful of out of touch “experts” and the public only votes in the finals.
That’s basically it.
A famous example was a few years back when Electric Callboy wasn’t even invited to the national finals for selecting the song because the selection committee knew they would win but “didn’t feel the song was fit for radio”
The song in question, it would’ve been glorious.
Ufff, hurts to see because it would have definitely had at least a chance at winning the whole thing!
Last I checked, Germany did not get last place this year and even got more points than last year.
Hey, at least this year they didn’t get last place!
13 countries, yes 13, gave 12 points to Israel in their televote. Spain and Belgium among them when in the Spanish broadcasting the commentators mentioned the crimes of Israel in Gaza and the Belgium broadcaster cut the transmission during the Israeli performance to demonstrate against their participation in the contest. It’s obvious that for the last two years Israel has been rigging the televote (it’s pretty easy to do so buying SIM cards or VPN and paying to vote 20 times). Eurovision has always been political, but the EBU should really consider if it’s worth it to destroy their reputation just because their main sponsor is an Israeli company (Morrocanoil). It’s not just because they are pink-washing a country condemned by the ICC for war crimes while vetoing Russia, but rigging the televote also shadows the real televotes of the Eurofans and screws the whole voting process.
a stupid joke i have is that 2 televoted we’re changed from estonia to Israel
Or maybe people really liked the performance? If you are posting such theories, do you have any proof?
Eurovision votes have NEVER been that unanimous across the board
I mean Ukraine 2022, just after the war began. 439 points from the public, 192 jury, 631 in total. By comparison Israel this year got “only” 297 points from the public, 60 jury, 357 in total. Last 2 years Israel was also 2nd and 5ft on the public votes. Last year it even had more public points than this year with 323.
This show can be very political on contemporary events.
- I found all numbers on https://eurovisionworld.com/
Note: country residents cannot vote for their own country. I think this is to prevent more populated countries from winning each time. Maybe Israel have some advantage in this system since we cannot vote against. If Palestine had a candidate, the Ukraine scenario was possible. But since it has no representation, vote “against” Israel are just dilutes all over.
Israel literally bought ads globally to advise people on how to vote for their entry in the finale.
Not a random marketing company or the artists label or even their public broadcasting company. The actual country.
Shady as fuuuuuuck
What really? First time I’m seeing this.
they censored the crowd during one small part of Malta’s song
Jizzrael tries so hard to make itself look like a legitimate country
