Why :( The poor thing has been surviving for more than a decade, let it live in peace.

Ah I wasn’t sure so I put a decade to be safe. I thought it was released in 2006. But yeah it’s 2004/2005. I’m well aware of how old it is because I’ve owned mine long enough that it could legally drink where I’m from.

Casual reminder to check your old rechargeable devices to make sure they don’t have a spicy pillow growing

I think DSi’s are the ONE device that is immune to any kind of degradation over time. Those things are fucking immortal

any other device, for sure. Especially iPod nanos, they were packaged so tightly that if it gets essentially any swelling the battery actually pushes the screen up against the glass

I went to go find an image to attach and this thumbnail of a YouTube video is so funny if you don’t know the context behind it

My DS lite still turns on as if it’s 2010. I’ve had my fair share of spicy pillows in old phones, powerbanks, etc. but the DS appears immune.

I don’t know how but my gameboy micro still turns on.

I think it might just be powered by a fucking nuclear reactor.

I have no idea where my old game devices would be in my childhood home, but I’ll remind my ma to be careful if she comes across them since she refuses to throw any of my old stuff away (I’m out of state now).

Now its a Gameboy Advance Macro.

People in the scene are literally doing this to get a cheap way to play GBA games on an IPS screen, albeit a little bit more professional.

As an OLED owner, I’ll never understand the IPS hype. All you get is washed out colors, contrast that can’t compete with 2010s display standards, and absolute garbage viewing angles. Why do people obsess over it so much? Even VA looks better.

VA Panels back in the day had atrocious viewing angles and ghosting and OLED didnt exist back then. This was the time when Nintendo went from front lit screens to back lit screens and people were used to really bad screens. The DS lite was miles ahead in terms of display quality.

The difference between the DS fat and the DS lite (in the photo) screens was miles.

They could just sppare the top screen, to have a fully functional DS instead or ruining a perfectly functional console for shits and giggles.

I think most are removing it and selling/keeping the top for parts to be used on a broken model, assuming they’re using a good one at all.

There might be something to be said about cutting and smoothing the of bottom case, but 3D printing, and cases sold online can mitigate that as well.

Console modding doesn’t have to be inherently destructive.

Oh man, that was a DS Lite, it had the coolest form factor of the whole bunch…

I still have mine somewhere around here, it’s a cool piece of hardware.

DS Lite and PSP were the golden age of handhelds. Not only did they have great libraries, they were also trivial to hack and run classic console games and romhacks. And you know the quality was good because mine are still working great. Damn Switch doesn’t even fit in my pocket.

I have both and the DS lite has better buttons. The DSi ones are extremely clicky. But nothing beats the convenience of jailbreaking a device with just an SD card and that’s where the DSi shines even today.
