When I think about why I stopped using Reddit and didn’t just switch to the official app when they killed the API, I forget that the official app has ads.
Not just the normal corporate shilling posts but actual literal ads right in the app.
I’m sure you can pay to remove them but nah.
The thing that blew my mind is they’re formatted the same as the posts. Its gross, dont make ads look like organic content.

The video player, on the occasions it works, forces you in an interface like tiktok, even allowing you to accidentally scroll down for another video to start playing
It reminded me that if you browsed Reddit from Spain many of the ads were literal scams, like the typical fake photo of a celebrity or even the Spanish king recommending you to invest in a very fishy crypto platform.
Spanish users were complaining and reporting these ads for months but last time I checked these ads were still running.
The conclusion is that Reddit didn’t even check who is running the ads and with what purpose as long as they pay them, and of course they don’t give a crap if their users get scammed.
Of course they don’t care if their users get scammed. They are also scamming them.
ublock origin blocks all the ads, reddit deserves thier ads to be blocked.

Huge percentage of reddit posts and comments are just companies platforming their product or service.
Reddit is ass.
Similar boat, I was pissed to be forced into viewing ads and didn’t want to give them my money. The funniest part is though that I then switched to a Lemmy app that also had ads and used it that way for months. Eventually paid for the Lemmy app because those devs actually deserve the money, unlike reddit.
I dont have a problem paying indie devs to remove ads but im not giving reddit a cent.
I would probably still be using reddit if they’d worked out a deal/way to show ads through third party apps…

I pay to remove ads where I can; my point is just that my issue with Reddit was what they did to third party devs; not anything to do with ads
A year ago, sure. But the app-ocalyps was only one of many issues. It was the straw that broke the camel’s back. By now there are a shit ton more issues that could’be been my straw, even if they still supported my favourite app.
RedReader app still works. No ads. Its on Google Play and FDroid.
Yeah RedReader is fine. I dont think it supports commenting etc though.
Sure does. I’ve been using it for years.
I still sometimes go back for content that doesn’t exist here and it’s always so jarring to see the ads.
I browse Reddit on redlib instances. NO ADS
