You won’t get much fruitful discussion of Louis CK’s work in the land of keyboard warriors. He was cancelled back when a lot of them were in middle school so they aren’t even familiar with his comedy or TV shows. I myself haven’t seen Horace and Pete but I loved Louie on FX so I might check it out

It kinda sucks that although what he didnwas objectively shitty, the fact he even did what victims constantly ask for consequently (beyond damages and in some sense more fundamentally) which is to affirm the harm the abuser committed against them and everybody treated that as no different than Harvey Weinstein. He is kinda more accountable and forseeably exposed himself to further liabillity when he could have denied it all Trump-style…

I just dunno anymore. Like don’t pull shit in the first place and be a pest, but how is redemption and reintegration ever possible for all involved in this current legal and cultural millieu. The apostle Paul fucking murdered and in thr multiple sense and he’s revered doing what CK tried which was to admit and change his ways ostenisbly.

I also think when someone as famous and talented as him gets cancelled, it’s arguably the fans who get the worst of it. He’s still a multimillionaire selling out shows but I can’t let anyone know I think he’s the funniest man alive without judgement. It’s so backwards because we the fans didn’t commit his crimes but we’re paying for them because we still have taste for what’s funny.

And like you say comparing to Weinstein, there’s no nuance. He might as well be a cannibal serial killer in the eyes of the public because a bad egg is a bad egg.

Im more concerned about how he is a case study in why you never admit to anything. It seems like theres already so little incentive for assholes to avoid trial and this eliminates any argument for (even if he was cornered or sufficient screws were pressed) stepping up and settling while committing onself to the requisite scrutiny besides damages, even if off-the-record, so their risk profile is manageable or completely mitigated.

      I suspect you’re correct.

      Regarding Horace & Pete: I just finished a re-watch. I think it’s brilliantly done.

I honestly hate his views on young people and mental illness in general which I feel are slightly more laughable than the genuine comedy I enjoy from him ya, but goddamn if he’s not funny when he’s not shitting on kids who have nothing and have no way to escape parents who were in turn often fucked up and themselves experienced the same. Fuck
