Where are these communities of horny femboys? Tell me which ones, specifically, so that I may avoid going there!

it’s intensely funny to me that space genocide simulator 3000 (stellaris, a paradox game), which offers myriad ways to abuse and torture alien races, has a player base that mostly plays as pacifist xenophiles and the bio-compatibility ascension!

(bio-comp means interspecies breeding, so that falls under horny i guess)

this information is from a devblog some years ago, no idea wether that’s still the case, but I’d assume it is, since at the time this playstyle dominated at somewhere around 2-3 times the percentage of the next highest playstyle… I’m pretty sure it’s still the case, because some major patches ago the devs reworked bio-comp to be less of a lag generator, i assume because a significant number of players still use it (despite the insane lag it added, and pretty sure still does)

It really concerns me how pretty much all statistics on video gamers show that a strong majority of players always pick good if given a choice between good and evil when I am the exact opposite. I am the type of person who plays Stellaris as a space genocide and slavery simulator, and for games with a good/evil choice I almost always pick evil unless it’s a more story driven game where I don’t think the MC would do that. So what does that say about me? Am I worse than the average person?

Literally a part of their game design. Neighboring empires are made to be opposed to your ideology picks, with a couple designed as allies.

If you think about it it’s a fairly necessary addition to create player narratives beyond “and nothing happened because we were all chill.”

Where is the Federation as an entertainment property without the Romulans and Borg?

If you want that to happen you need to put the work in… Or get lucky, which does sometimes happen, because that’s also a narrative, just not one they think works every time.

I guess but it just turns into “and then the space hippies murdered everyone” which isn’t much different from “and then the space racists mudered everyone”

The fanatic xenophobes are never going to be friends with me.

As the DLC added more and more you got more tools to resolve that but it’s certainly true that in the base game what it usually means is they attack you. Then depending on how pacifist your empire is you have the choice of either just defending yourself or liberating their planets of the space fascist scourge…

Either way it’s a story being told, right?

I usually like to play as Inward Perfectionists, though I would like to try out Idyllic Blooms too.

Often also, I close borders to everyone except refugees, and kick out all Fanatics of the Authoritarian, Spiritualist, Xenophobe, and Militarist groups.

Pacifist, Materialist + Egalitarian is usually my way to go. For civics, I like to get Environmentalist and Shared Burdens.

Main reasons for taking those ethics and civics is partially ideological, and partially convenience. The extra stability (from Pacifist), research speed bonus (from Materialist) and faction unity gain (from Egalitarian) is simply too good to pass up.

I usually expand until I have 3-4 chokepoints left. Then I just sit it out and watch as empires fight each other. I keep a big military and good relations whenever possible, and that always has worked well for me. I like to view my empire as the people’s dream come true.

I haven’t played in a long while though, because my ol’ laptop gets a tad bit too hot, sadly.

So I might need to go look at a new one… the issue is, I’m considering shifting to Linux, but idk what distribution has:

        • good privacy
        • good security (also fairly up to date)
        • is suitable for gaming
        • is FOSS, of course
        • and hopefully, also has a UI similar to that of Macintosh. Or at least somewhat beginner-friendly, but definitely well-customisable.

Main reason is to get independent from US corporatism. I could try dual booting but I’ve never done that before, no idea how to do that.

Realistically any distribution will meet your list of requirements. All supported distros are brilliant for security and privacy (well, except for (Red Star OS)[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Star_OS], but I’m sure that wasn’t on your short list anyways) there’s packages for Steam on basically every distro, and flatpaks make it easy to install other launchers on most distros too. Most desktop environments have a Mac-inspired preset as well

I’d say start with either Linux Mint for more general computing (it’s based on Ubuntu but excludes some of Canonical’s less popular changes to Ubuntu and ships with a more sane desktop environment) or Bazzite is the new hotness giving a very steamdeck-like experience with dedicated gaming mode or desktop mode. Their site appears to currently be experiencing some SSL issues though

for gaming it’s easiest to go with bazzite:

it’s based on fedora atomic and works really well out of the box!

also comes pre-installed with a few nice to have gaming utilities.

highly customizable and FOSS applies to all popular distros, afaik.
