They say they are doing things they don’t have the authority to do all the time. He announced a pardon of tina peters, this election denier county clerk that violated voting machines in 2020, and was convicted in Colorado State. He doesn’t have the authority to pardon state crimes. He just says shit.

Welp… Guess Europe now no longer needs to adhere to their side of the trade deal.
    What a shame… /s

Sadly our part of the trade deal is 15% tariffs on our part flat and in reverse we put 0% tariffs on anything

Yes, but the trade deal also has a clause in it that the US has to honour their end of the deal.
If they don’t honour their part of the deal, the trade deal is null and void

That was a huge part of what the parliament ended up negotiating into the deal. If the US does not honour it, then it is dead.

Still honestly a shame, that the US does shit like that.

This “trade deal” always was a rotten one, where the EU has to accept worse terms than it already had.

The only reason why we would even go along with that, is because Trump knows that there is a certain amount of reliance from Europe on the US in terms of defence. It really is a wake-up call to Europe that we can’t allow ourselves to depend on the US like we used to.

I agree that it’s a shame the US doesn’t engage with its allies in good faith anymore

Edit: Personally I think we should not even bother trying to appease Trump.

No matter what deal you reach with him, he will not honour it and demand more. Any trade deal reached with America is not even worth the paper it is written on.

I feel like the EU has woken up, but needs some time before they’re currently awake. If there is still politicians out there who need a wake-up call, i guess they just prefer to stay asleep.

That reliance is being addressed, just in a calm manner. That is why the EU does trade deals all over the world and is also working on new military projects. However that needs time and the best way to get that is to negotiate.

The other big part are the Midterms. If the Democrats win control over the House, they can at least hurt Trump somewhat. That would lift many sanctions pretty quickly. If not then plan A still works.

We don’t have the nukes to vaporise Russia but how can Russia beat the EU, let alone the entire remaining Nato forces?

It’s ironic that the 13th amendment to the US Constitution still allows forced labour for those convicted of crimes:

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

But let’s call it what it is: Trump and his administration want to impose tariffs, and he is using whatever pathway available to him to impose them, even if hypocritical, morally discredible, or of question legality…
