The European Commission has just released a major strategy on technological sovereignty, and it’s placing open source software squarely in the spotlight. The message is clear: open source is key to true digital independence.
From the Strategy document:
Strengthen the open source social media space by supporting open and decentralised social media solutions and platforms. The Commission currently runs a Mastodon instance, which hosts the Commission’s presence and plans to extend the users basis to EU institutions.
EDIT: EU Commission just launched a new digital-tech account: @digitaleu@ec.social-network.europa.eu
I’m here for it. Open source and open standards. Reject lock-in.
Europe or the EU? Because I’d say Sweden is ostensibly in Europe but our government is doing the complete opposite. We’re like “ooh yesss Trumpy fuck us harder.”
I hate our leaders.
