Context: Gang violence in Sweden. I’m never quite sure to what extent this is framing by right-wing people and to what extent the problem is real. So yeah, both are true, but I never seem to find the deeper analysis I want.

Sweden faces “an emergency situation that we need to manage”, the justice minister, Gunnar Strömmer, said, referring to the gang violence that has flared up across the Nordic country in the past decade, with criminal networks active in drug dealing, large-scale fraud and robbery.

Like most experts consulted on the plan, the Kumla prison chief, Jacques Mwepu, is against putting children in prison. But now he and other critics have been overruled and the government is going ahead, he wants to “do as much as we can” to help them feel comfortable.

BTW the “Moderate” party are really liberal-conservative. Liberal in the lean government and economic sense. In other words, fascist adjacent.

Instead of going to the root of the problem they are gonna prosecute children. Maybe give high sentences to anyone who recruits children - just treat them as if they did the crime.

Surely the root cause is the drug prohibition giving billions worth of trade to criminals. If all drugs were sold in pharmacies, drug gangs would stop being profitable.

If the root cause was prohibition then the violence problem would always be there, which does not seem to be the case
