I didn’t know this was a thing!!!
I’m gonna use this. Not sure what for, but I’ll use it :3
What a self-own
I think it’s cool that Android has this
Who uses it though?
I guess it can be handy to silo off work stuff but I don’t really see what the feature is for beyond that
I use it for a few different things. I have my main profile, a work one, one with google play and a few random apps that require it, and one for when my 2 year old likes to pretend he’s talking on the phone that can’t make calls or texts and has no apps installed.
That’s genius, but I’m absolutely horrified that you allow a 2-year-old to use a phone. That’s how you raise an iPad baby. They should be playing with age-appropriate toys, and interacting with other kids their age as often as possible. My kids are allowed to use the desktop PC, but they’re not allowed to have a phone until they’re old enough to go outside on their own. They’re doing just fine without.
My boys spend most of their day outside in the field doing various farm chores and absolutely love it. I have to drag them in for dinner most days. My 4 year old has his own hand saw and can pretty accurately measure and cut boards for me while practicing better safety protocols than I’ve seen on most job sites, he learned addition and subtraction by counting how many eggs we get a day which he made one of his daily chores, I had to cut the arms down on a post hole digger and add new handles because we were planting a bunch of trees a few weeks ago and he wanted to be the one to dig all the holes. My 2 year old is always right behind him usually covered in dirt having a ball. I think it’s fine if my 4 year old asks to play a bubble pop game every couple weeks or my 2 year old pretends to be on the phone with his grandma a couple times a week. They won’t even stay inside long enough to watch a whole movie before getting bored.
I love the kiddy profile idea, that’s neat!
I didn’t realise it kept the apps separate - is it burdensome to switch profiles or share stuff between the apps in different contexts?
It’s easy to switch profiles if you know where to look, but tricky enough that my kids can’t to it. It’s just a small icon when you pull the topbar all the down. It’s pretty quick too.
Apps are completely separate. I have some apps I use for work and personal stuff installed separately on different profiles and there’s no data exchanged or leakage.
As far as I can tell they might as well be 2 separate phones.
I’m also on Grapheme OS so I’m not sure if there’s any difference on stock android but I’d assume it’s the same/similar.
I use it so that my nosy employer will only see what I allow them to see.
If you have a private phone with work stuff on it, by the new NIS2 cyber security laws of the EU, using a separate profile / container is mandatory.
So depending of your location and your work, there might actually not be an alternative anyway.
Is this real? Please tell me this isn’t real. It’s absurd.
