BlueSky itself is still operated and developed by a corporation though, even if an instance isn’t. Thus you’re still beholden to the whims of the people in charge of that.
Oh, stop. If you’ve got something to say just say it.
There are a diversity of voices in every community that is open to the public. I would say an even greater diversity in those spaces where people go when they’ve grown fed up with the closed, commercial platforms.
What “regional lock-in” are you talking about? Isn’t all the bluesky tech USAian? Aren’t all the technical decisions made in the US? If they decide to introduce some kind of filtering in the code, is the EU side going to copy-paste the code , remove the offending parts, and then host it? I doubt they’ll be able to keep that up for long. They are facing millions of dollars across the pond.

Love me some greedy assholes, i trust them with my every fiber being 😍
Jokes aside if we have more people, things could change pretty fast in a good way.
It is changing already, just look at Blacksky.
Use Mastodon/Sharkey
Fediverse alternative, not connected to nation states or capitalists.
Sharkey is just miles ahead of Mastodon and I’m disappointed no one told me that before joining.
Neither have the user base of Twitter or Bluesky, which is essential for a social platform.
And they never will if we continue to direct people to corpoweb.
lol ok bro
It’s not essential for my social platform
Odd that you wouldn’t want a diversity of voices and backgrounds on your social media platform. Have you thought about about just changing to a diary?

Why are you wasting time on Lemmy then? Shouldn’t you be posting on Facebook instead?
*puts EU sticker on US coloured pig*
“There, that makes it better”
creates EU infrastructure that connects to US infrastructure to prevent regional lock-in

Its not a Bluesky alternative, its just a different frontend for Bluesky. A good frontend but nothing more.
