If one lives near a Costco, then there are almost certainly more ethical options in the same area.

Entirely depends on the local area. I have two Costcos in my area. I also have several farmers’ markets, a co-op, and several grocers that sell fair trade and local products.

Food I understand, it can be genuinely difficult without spending significantly more, Costco isn’t the worst choice. But… correct me if wrong, but I don’t think that’s where they make up their margin. Everything they sell is in bulk, sure it’s “economical” if everyone really “needs” to buy so much. They, like all major sellers of consumer commodities, thrive on consumerism.
