He is still an un-American POS though. Funny because I always thought the republicans platform was to support the military when they are active and screw them over after they are discharged.

Close. The Republican platform is to SAY they support the military. What they actually support is using the military, either for some good old fashioned Imperialism, or for public relations material.

Bernie had the best response in one of the presidential primary debates years ago. They asked him something about being against some military action and whether he supports the troops.

He said something like of course I support the troops. That’s why I don’t want to send them off to die.

He’s the first Auburn coach to lose to Army, Navy, and Air Force in the same season.

I googled 1942 Auburn to make sure and that year, Auburn lost to the “Georgia Pre-Flight Skycrackers,” which was apparently people sent to UGA to see if it would make a good flight academy? Or something. College football during WWII was insane.

Way, way, way too late. They will only be able to get through a fraction of the military promotions.

No, most of the promotions will get through now, unless some other dumbass decides to do the same thing. But it seems like other Republican Senators are tired of the BS, and were going to vote to change the rules.

So now, Coach gets to get his face on the news again and lift most of the holds. This prevents Republicans from having to vote against him, let’s most of the lower approvals through, but still forces the Senate to do a dozen approvals the long way. So he gets some PR out of it, while still causing problems for Chuck.

Most importantly, it keeps the dumb rule in place so some other yokel can try it again in a few years.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) announced Tuesday that he would lift his blanket hold on military promotions, ending a nearly 10-month standoff over a Biden administration abortion policy that made the former football coach the target of bipartisan ire.

The affable former football coach was left with few options after Schumer put forward a proposal that would allow the Senate to go around Tuberville’s holds, which had the Republican votes necessary to pass.

Behind closed doors, Republicans complained that Tuberville’s blockade was hurting them politically as well, given the harm to the military and the focus on abortion, which has been a losing issue at the polls for the GOP in recent elections.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell took the rare step of publicly rebuking Tuberville, saying he should not be punishing “military heroes” for a Biden administration policy.

For months, Tuberville said he wanted Schumer to do a full floor vote on each nominee to get around his hold, arguing that each one would enjoy bipartisan support and easily pass.

The list of promotions on hold was expected to continue growing if Tuberville did not drop his objections, with about three-quarters of the military’s more than 850 generals and admirals due to be blockaded by year’s end, the senior defense official said.
