Which is also exactly why it will never be popular. People don’t want to have to deal with jumping around instances, dealing with the poor discoverability of the fediverse, etc. Even lemmy has that issue, I’m here because im a linux nerd so there is a decent amount of content i want here found easily but for anything else might as well be worthless.

  • I’ve unfortunately gotten tired of ironfox, some of the crap they change for “privacy” (doesn’t exist on the internet and all attempts to block things actually make you MORE identifiable) just break too many websites. After the like 30th time having to switch to nightly to make something work i just said fuck it.

They really need to be more careful about actual functionality if they want to take over as the main version of ff. Don’t get me wrong I use ublock origin, decentraleyes, clearURLs etc. But i use them for performance not privacy, blocking all the bullshit sites load to eat my battery. They work without constantly breaking basic sites unlike whatever ironfox does

  • So 99% of people on the road. Even when they are not looking at their phone people don’t understand what a safe following distance is. The amount of times I’ve had to try to explain to my friends that no this is not a safe following distance you are currently less than 2 seconds at your current speed from them is infuriating.

The amount of people who will go around me when I maintaining a four-second following distance because I’m not tailgating the car in front of me is equally infuriating.

  • I did this in high school, it was just a basic script that spawned a warning dialog box (the kind thats always on top) that just said you can’t close this, part of the script action was making tge task scheduler check every few seconds if the script was running… If it wasn’t then run it.

Since I was making the task scheduler do the checking it meant even if you tried to task manager force close the script it would just open again in a few seconds, it was not a permanent task it was a temporary one and every opening of the script would reset that task so basically the only way to get rid of it was to restart the computer as that would clear the task.

  • There is a single standard with no forks, I said not a single one followed. I run my own Matrix Home Server and use it frequently, there are a lot of different clients and there are a good number of them that do run their own features that are not exactly in Spec because one does not yet exist in the official spec. Stickers used to be a good example of that I remember when there were like three different clients Each of which implemented them in a different weird way until the spec finally landed on an implementation.

And even within this back there are some basic features not supported on certain clients and other such problems. I’m just saying it’s not an alternative to Discord and it will never be mainstream because it’s too confusing and frustrating from the perspective of a standard user.

Same concept that made bluesky get popular over mastodon, trying to find anything on Mastodon of interest is a chore because there’s no real Central spot to do everything the very nature of it is that it’s scattered to the winds, there’s also multiple apps available for Mobile on Mastodon Each of which have different layouts, different features, and normal people that just want to be able to find their topic of Interest can’t be bothered to deal with that
