Not the person you’re responding to but if I wanted to turn an old Asus MeMO Pad 7 into something I could stream from my PC with, would you advise me to install Postmarket OS, LineageOS, something else?

It really is hard to find a job where you can go home at the end of the day and feel like what you did that day has benefitted the human race at all.

Yeah this issue seems to just keep going and going. Are there any South African users here that can comment? I get the feeling that this issue has more complicated origins than at first appearance, and some local insight might help.

1. The EU shares territorial fishing rights across member states in a way that seems to make noone happy, except perhaps France, Spain and Portugal. One of the lesser-known (outside of the UK) arguments that Brexiteers made for Brexit was that the UK would regain control of fishing rights. When Brexit happened, France was insistent on hinging a large part of the negotiations on retaining fishing access to British waters.

2. Iceland is intensely protective of its territorial fishing rights… just ask the British.

If the EU were willing to overhaul the CFP, it might entice Greenland and Norway too…

I’m excited at the prospect of Iceland joining, but I dunno how they’ll overcome the obstacle of the common fisheries policy.

Oh I mean he’s definitely gonna head to the holodeck to jerk it, but he probably just uses a stock character. Has Riker made holograms of real people to smooch with? Because “using the holodeck for sexytimes” isn’t the problem; everyone does that. It’s the “using real people” that’s the problem. Same reason people were creeped out or offended when Barclay did it.

TBH I never thought that it would be Iran that would be the last nation on Earth to figure this out.

One could argue that capitalism only did that because it needed to compete with communism, and that the more that capitalism eliminates its communist competition, the less it seems inclined to care about the working class.

One of the main reason a country’s government will subsidize or otherwise encourage green energy and EV adoption is as a geopolitical strategy to reduce dependence on oil, due to the fact that most oil-producing nations are deeply unstable for one reason or another. The USA’s problem is that it is one of those deeply unstable oil-producing nations, and so it wants to keep the renewables market suppressed and the oil and oil derivatives market boosted.

Here in Ireland we don’t have one jot of domestic oil production, so renewables are seen as a way to not be held hostage by the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune (and idiotically unnecessary wars in the Middle East, and idiotically random tariff wars) because we do have our own water, wind and sunshine. America doesn’t have that natural incentive to the same extent that we do.

It’s kind of the point of the show, though. The main thing a novice needs explained to them is why bad decisions are bad. So the show provides a valuable public service, demonstrating to farmers which experimental methods work and which don’t, so that farmers with less money to burn than Clarkson can gain the benefit of the experiment without bankrupting themselves.

I must say, this Mamdani fellow seems to be having a lot of success very quickly. One has to wonder why nobody ever tried any of this before. Can it really be that the switch to using Ranked Choice Voting in NY primaries made THAT much of a difference in the type of candidate that made it through?

The whole concept of tipping is really just institutionalized bribery. It associates the idea of paying more with getting treated better. Like the man who slips the maitre d’ money in order to get a table without having reserved one, it punishes poor people by un-leveling the playing field. If I’m paying the amount that has been agreed upon, I shouldn’t have to worry that a server might neglect me to lavish more attention on someone who’s bribing them. If I’ve reserved a table according to the correct procedure, I shouldn’t have to worry that my reservation will be “accidentally double-booked” as a result of somebody else being willing to bribe the maitre d’. Rich people should not have an easy means to steal what they want from poor people.
