Great list. I think you and I might be the only people that actually liked Dark Matter, everyone else seems to write it off as wannabe Firefly and that’s… not inaccurate, but I still enjoyed it, haha.
It’s been so long between the last time I saw Firefly or Serenity and when I started watching Dark Matter (only a few months ago), the comparison didn’t even occur to me.
There is some overlap, but IMHO not much more than any other “rag tag group of fugitives on a powerful ship” sci fi. Speaking of which, only after I posted did I think “oh, I forgot to find a role for Avon from Blake’s 7.”
Dark Matter was fun, so was Killjoys. I watched both when they were airing.
That’s the thing, looking back…it’s easy to compare those types of shows against everything better that came before. However, at the time; it was just new material. I go into these situations with low expectations so as not to be disappointed.
They can’t all be zingers, right?
Edit: after re-reading this in a more enlightened state (1 day older & a bit less intoxicated), I’ve come to a better conclusion…
We generally look back and only remember the best & worst things. Mediocre or “it was okay” get forgotten.
The shoulders or taint of the giants on which we stand get left behind.
