Weakest excuse I have ever heard, there is no shame in learning
In learning when you personally are being hyperbolic or ironic? 😆 Also, you seem to actually hold the positions you advocate for, unless this is some elaborate meta-ironic satire you’re doing of lemmy.world neoliberals?
Also check my profile, I’m openly autistic. I’m already known not to be good at reading social cues. So excuse me if I misread your social cues 😁.
corruption of the few is not descriptive of all
Exactly, which is why I never alleged that these institutions have been corrupted. They are functioning exactly as designed because brutality on behalf of racism and white supremacy is the function of the police.
Every group is self interested
Of course. Capitalists merely being self-interested is not why I’m anti-capitalist. Frankly, it’s because their interests contrast with my own interests, and I suspect the interests of others to…live happy lives.
and very very few extremist groups want to topple the status quo as such changes historically always ended in turmoil
And the US isn’t in turmoil? It hasn’t been? The status quo is turmoil unless you are white, rich, straight, cis, etc.
You don’t give either to societ
You don’t know me. I’m not gonna dox myself, but I could be making thousands of dollars and be set for life if I told the military I wanted to work for them or a defense contractor in their R&D department. I have basically taken a vow of poverty to do peaceful research because I want to do something good for the world.
But even then, I 1000% do not subscribe to the notion that everyone needs to contribute to society. I got no problem if you want to just eat Doritos all day and do nothing. I’m all for it. I can build a machine that will do the “missing” work for us. What I do have a problem with is capitalists making our lives worse, making it detrimental to others to build that machine because you are forced to work to survive.
yet you ask for more from it!
I ask nothing of the State and capitalists except to disappear. In the interim, I will happily claw back as much money, resources, time, opportunities, etc., that they stole from us.
And as for the community, I have given my time and labor to the community for my entire adult life. Besides my research, I also spent years delivering food for scraps.
What is the point of community if you can never ask anything of it? The strength of community is precisely that you can lean on the community if you need help! This is why the capitalists in the US have fought so hard to break up communities.
And unlike other developed nations, we almost don’t get things from our government. Infrastructure is falling apart, it’s impossible to find cheap housing, education sucks, higher education is impossibly expensive even at public schools, the mental health system is gutted and impotent even for people who can afford it, healthcare is a complete disaster even for people who can pay for it… and to top it all off, Trump is pretty openly against the idea of the government doing anything non-violent for his citizens; see the Big Beautiful Bill.
So if the US government is considered representative of my society, which in my view it is not because no State is a legitimate representative of any society, but to be charitable if we assume that it is representative of my society, we get almost nothing from our society, so we owe them almost nothing in return.
And the rest is not true! Your labor is not stolen you are willingly selling it to the entity you choose
Well yes, I choose the entity to whom I sell my labor. But the necessity of selling my labor at all is absolutely not voluntary in this current system! And as I previously alluded to, access to what you need to survive should be unconditional. You are a human, and you deserve to live whether or not you create value for society.
discovering knowledge takes resources
Yeah which is why it’s crazy that we make researchers practically take a vow of poverty in the US 😆
its distribution takes resources
Not as much as you think. For example, LibGen does it for free. And frankly, when my upcoming paper comes out, it’s going straight on ArXiv, i.e. the preprint will be free.
if the cycle was not self sustaining then there would be no new discoveries…
…the sad reality is that we wouldn’t have research in a capitalist system if it weren’t for two factors:
The military needs eggheads.
There are people who just want to build cool stuff and are willing to accept shitty circumstances if it means we’re allowed to build cool stuff.
