    They didn’t tend to wear hose over things like armor, if it’s hose it’s actually likely closer the bottom of a chainmail shirt or hauberk. This is strengthened by the background dude having a something like a codpiece and the foreground facing dude having a length of fabric draping down where they tie the hose to. They didn’t wear pants that actually came together. Would also explain why the poor bastards have arrows sticking out of their largely unarmored legs.

    Edit: similar hauberk/hose, though likely based on this very source hilariously enough due to the same pose, crossbow, and similar uniform markings blended together, just as a 19th century art print
