Convictions for sexual assault are made based on testimony alone all the time. They’re often made years after the fact when all physical evidence is gone.
Give the alleged victim ample psychological and legal support.
Attempt to gather evidence that abuse took place, if possible and, if so, convict.
Otherwise you’re just opening the door for an innocent person1 to go to jail on a whim.
You can’t bitch about deporting people without due process and be fine with the same happening with alleged abusers.
(1 not that i believe trump to be innocent, at all)
Which isn’t how it works. You do have collaborating (but not decisive) evidence.
The prosecution makes their case. The defense takes that case apart. There are plenty of issues with the American system of justice, but this isn’t one of them.
Reasonable doubt is not a low bar, and you can’t bypass it by just believing. Yes, we need evidence to support accusations. People are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty.
Not that this would ever go to a criminal trial, because at this point the only way Trump is facing justice is if half the government is heading to the gallows along with him Nuremberg style.
That said, it doesn’t take much for allegations against Trump to be credible. If we just believe the shit Trump himself has said unprompted he’s a sexual predator that molests women and peeps on under age girls. There’s a reason a jury found that he probably sexually assaulted E. Jean Carroll despite having almost no evidence of the specific incident. He’s made it abundantly clear how he treats women, and it doesn’t help that he got caught in obvious lies.

If bread and circuses ever go dry for enough people in America. There will be. But I worry about what will result from that if it happened now. There is no class consciousness here. It needs to be built.
I’m currently visiting the US (for work, not by choice) for the first time since 2006- you know what the worst part is?
I’ve been here four days, and if I didn’t intentionally seek out international or reliable news media, I would HAVE NO IDEA that anything had changed. It’s so fucking insidious how benign this garbage can look if you’re not paying close attention. I’m honestly terrified at how fucking normal everything seems, given what’s happening.
the whole “believe victims” thing is a trap… presenting a false dilemma to disbelieve or believe them….
but in a reasonable world, a victim’s testimony is evidence but not proof… evidence is enough to investigate and look for proof, and enough witnesses becomes as good as proof.
when you have someone as powerful as a president, there will always be a lot of liars… it’s just the law of large numbers, so the burden of proof becomes higher.
also, all reasonable people know that trump is a rapist and a pedophile by now, we just need proof to force people to admit it.
If we only believe the victims, Trump is guilty of being involved in a pedophile ring beyond a reasonable doubt.
We only need the Epstein Files to “prove” this because we don’t believe the victims.
You need the files because someone said so is not evidence.
Then again the dumbfuck pretty much confesses his crimes anyway so there’s that.
How he’s still alive is beyond me.

No wonder the US justice system is a joke.
What do you plan to do when childhood sexual abuse is uncovered decades after the fact?

I accept your proposal. Shall we begin?

And that’s disgusting right, because a nobody would get fucked for less.
Trump supporters believe beyond a reasonable doubt that it is all fake news.
It’s certainly beyond reasonable. I think they know better, but refuse to admit it because “he’s like us!”
