Most disappointing line in the sand ever.

Ten years ago was the time to flip out about fascism. I can’t believe some people are still telling us “wait for it…!”

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ the best time to flip out about fascism is ten years ago. Second best time is today.

This is what we need to hear. Not condescension for inaction, but a call to continuously move forward with protest, unification, and unwaveringly loud "fuck you"s to the administration that’s trying to kill us.

Oh! Hah, I completely overlooked the timestamp. I never did twitter or bsky, micro blogging feels as opaque and pointless to me as Discord does to …well, most people.

We deserved better. We deserved bernie. I blame hillary clintons ambition and the dnc at the time for trying to force her through. Bernie would have beaten trump the first time.

If you’re trying to split the difference between finding a specific contemporary individual to blame versus blaming an inherently flawed democracy that contains the seeds of its own destruction, you could do worse than the DNC top brass of the last decade.

Government full of actual Nazis. Clearance Thomas fireselling Supreme Court decisions. Blame Hillary Clinton.

I blame her because they put their thumb on the scale of a democratic process. The 2016 primary race was very contenious. The clinton campaign not only used their insider connections in the dnc to directly help her campaign (they are supposed to be agnostic in that process), they also ran a toxic campaign that put off nearly half the base. So much so that a guy like Trump could win in the first place.

I blame them because they were so fucking reckless in their pursuit of power that they lost to these clowns. The real choice was bernie or trump, and when bernie was no longer an option, people went trump

Not weak, just early. Hitler didn’t start with the Holocaust or even the Enabling act; he had a Reichstag majority starting July 1932. MAGA will follow in the Nazis’ footsteps; they’ll just take a little longer to do it.

He’s definitely also weak, he flip flops on every move. They would be further along if they weren’t handcuffed to a senile narcissist with one foot in the grave. OTOH they have only gotten this far riding his cult of personality, once he kicks it I have a feeling the whole party will collapse into infighting and not get anything done.

Oh Trump is definitely weak, but the progression of fascism under him is not. These two things can be true at the same time, especially because the issues he flip flops on (mostly tarrifs) aren’t actually necessary for the fascist takeover.

They would be further along if they weren’t handcuffed to a senile narcissist with one foot in the grave.

I’d say the opposite: Trump’s aggressiveness and recklessness has actually been a boon to MAGA (and a bane to everyone else). A more careful fascist might’ve actually had to win the midterms.

OTOH they have only gotten this far riding his cult of personality, once he kicks it I have a feeling the whole party will collapse into infighting and not get anything done.

I see this view a lot, but to be frank I think it’s naive. I mean, up in Canada fascists have rallied around Pierre fucking Poillievre (here’s hoping I spelled that right); these guys will take anyone as long as they can do their fascism. Fascism isn’t an artificial construct; it’s a political phenomenon that arises under certain conditions and no one person is necessary for its success once those conditions are met. That is to say: After Trump dies they’ll just find someone else, probably after a brutal and bitter internal power struggle.
