Silicon Valley has sold the idea of tech in classrooms for years, because they get access to lifelong customers and valuable data. But while corporations like Google make billions, student test scores are falling.

I’m not sure why people choose Youtube as their platform to criticise big tech like Google.

Using an alternative means you’d only reach people who already know the problems with big tech.

You need to reach people where they are to have any chance at giving them new information

I find this interesting. I agree with your point, the problem I have is with the, sort of, reverse of what you’re touching on here. Before cambridge analytica, SecureScuttleButt was really fun, full of geeky people talking about and sharing geeky things; after cambridge analytica, a ton of people left from facebook to SSB and suddenly the conversation turned inward and everybody was talking about the platform itself and how to “improve it” and how to have safe spaces, remove posts, federation etc. Same thing with X/Bsky. Early on Bsky was fun and geeky and whatnot. Then people from X went there looking for refuge and everyone started talking about the platform itself or, even worse, talking about the “birb site” and the conversation diluted and became less interesting. I’m glad about the fediverse because so far I don’t seem to have hit that wall yet. (sorry if this is super off-topic)

Big tech just following the indoctrination program of Big religion; get the kids before they’re able to think for themselves.

before they’re able to think for themselves.

Kind of naive to think they don’t think for themselves. Why do you think governments want to ban minors from using most common services, to restrict them and banish all their rights?

All it matters is that the bourgeois can more easily craft a perfect populace using “official” channels.

Sure, but it’s the difference between a few who are able to pierce the veil of their indoctrination, vs a large majority who retain the early childhood conditioning through the rest of their lives. If nothing else, it creates a steady dissonance that ultimately only serves to make life and/or living feel less innately enjoyable and more like livestock in a predatory system from which we cannot escape. All so that the same small group of ultra rich can further their wealth and influence.

If we had a functioning government, they would have regulated the corporate landscape decades ago, but instead we’ve all been forced to labor under and increasing marginalization, while the ROI of our efforts yields less and less. Hardly seems sustainable.
