Latin class is always the best class.

Other foreign languages: you learn boring stuff like “Hi, my name is mkwt. What is your name? How are you?”

Latin: you learn the words for swords and various other weapons, and six different words for kill in the first two weeks.

(They do this because they’re prepping students to read Julius fucking Caesar as their first exposure to “real classical Latin.”)

I took Latin in high school. This was exactly the type of crowd it attracted back then as well.

    Keep doing what you’re doing

This is how we spawn toilet demons. They’re not just mean, they smell awful.

I’m not going to say latin is boring, but most high school kids really don’t give a fuck about it. Sounds like this teacher is absolutely engaging the class and I appreciate the heck out of that.

I took latin in high school and was devastated when my teacher retired and I didn’t get a second year

I had a fucking rad Latin teacher. Everything was engaging, stories about words and history and crazy facts. She showed Life of Brian solely for the Romanes eunt domus scene and stood in front of the TV for the full frontal nudity. It was the 90s man.

We had a guy named Scott in our class when our textbook was focusing on the Romans in the British isles, so we called him Caldonii to tease her because she insisted that he was a singular Scott and not a plural.

She took us to high school Latin competitions and we placed pretty well for the state.

Compared to a lot of other stuff that happened at school, learning Latin was fun. Especially because for a while we had the best teacher I ever had in that subject.

I had 3 different Latin teachers. Only one of them was even close to be interested in making his classes more engaging

But the guy was also a massive nerd who apparently went to conventions/meetups where only Latin was allowed to be spoken. And I always suspected he was old enough to have been alive when it was the lingua franca

Most teachers just went through the books, told us about some grammar rules and gave us a page of text to translate as homework

I can actually fully confirm the subjugation of esse is perfect for a chant, as my school mates and I used to chant exactly that and it’s the only reason why I still remember it: sum, es, est, sumus, estis, sunt!

One of my college professors did this.

“For 2 points, draw anything on the top of your test next to your name.”

He’s the only professor that I actually learned something from and was worth the money.

There’s no way I’m taking on a toilet demon, no matter how many rolls of TP I’ve got.
