For those of you outside the U.S. who don’t know, Thanksgiving is basically a simultaneous celebration and revision of the genocide of the indigenous peoples of North America where people eat turkey and disgusting green bean slop.

I, for one, enjoy said green bean slop, especially with extra fried-to-unrecognizable onion strings

The backstory is revisionist bullshit, sure. But in modern reality it’s basically just a yearly harvest meal to spend with your family and friends.

Just don’t ask the racist uncle whether the backstory is revisionist bullshit.

Can’t say I’m a fan of a country-specific holiday being featured like this in an intentionally neutral and international instance. Would have much preferred to see something for the trans day of remembrance.

Well I’m the owner of lemmy.world, and I’m Dutch. But still I know what Thanksgiving is, and many users are from the US, so why not?

But I do agree we should also feature days like the Trans day of Remembrance. Maybe we could create a community-created list of special days?

Try posting non-US news to !news and see what happens.

Well that’s some high grade bullshit. “The World’s Internet Frontpage”.

It’ll go unnoticed, but I think it’s appropriate to remind Americans that theyre co-opting terms like “news” to mean “American news”.

It’s a Turkey, a bird native to North America. In the US, it’s tradition to eat turkey on Thanksgiving Day, a major fall holiday in America which takes place on the lasy Thursday of November, which is tomorrow.

I asked this yesterday in the matrix room. It appears it’s for the US Thanksgiving. It’s a turkey btw.
