Married 77 years. Longer than some people actually live, that’s a huge achievement.
I’m amazed at comments thinking this is unremarkable. Just look at the picture of the state he’s in. Very admirable that he was able to do this, I would not be surprised if he passes by not long after this.
I agree, he does look like death is close and I’m glad he went. They took down the video of him coming in, he was way more aware than the picture leads you to believe. He looked the same, but he was looking around with alert eyes. He’s a strong person.
I think it’s less of a “it’s not impressive he did” and more of a “im not sure anything could have stopped him”. He very clearly deeply loved her, and I really doubt he’s particularly worried about the end potentially coming a tad bit sooner at this point.
I had no idea he was in hospice care since February. In my experience, I thought hospice care was where people go to die quietly with a little bit of dignity that hospitals don’t offer.
They offer it inside the hospital too, it’s a way for you to die while being taken care of. Most people aren’t prepared for providing the type of care they need. Hospice care nurses and doctors are heroes.
Typically people go in when there’s not much time left, but hospice is really just a commitment that you’re not going to bother fighting whatever illness you’ve got or might get. People can go into hospice and stay there a long time, and even come out of it.
That’s a common misconception about hospice. My Dad spent the last year of his life in and out of hospice with the the last 5 months in hospice care. The main difference is hospice is strictly palliative - no heroic measures if some major event happens.
That’s exactly what it is, which is why it’s impressive that he was able to attend this memorial

Someday, far sooner than I’d like, I’ll look like that. I hope I can face it with the same dignity and sacrifice he’s demonstrated.
Citizens look at 70 how he looks now at 99. Theres no way many of us are reaching that level of presence and health with the difference in healthcare hes seen and what we even have available to the public.
I bet the most important factor in his healthcare is all the physical and mental exercise that he got from continuing to build houses for the underprivileged into his 90s.
Unironically yes. He kept active and engaged, while not having to worry about laboring his health away and hardly making it to the next year while riddled in debt.
Wow, he looks every one of his 99 years. Managed to outlive the two presidents after him, that’s not bad!
There’s video. Who is the person that kisses him on the cheek? I’m guessing his daughter.

That mouth making me act up 🥵
Slow news day.
I thought that was Biden for a moment. /s
Wow. I can’t believe he attended his wife’s memorial service… Truly shocking.
He’s been in hospice care. I assume palliative care. I don’t imagine a public appearance is much fun for him.
I dont imagine fun was the point of attending, or that he could have been stopped from doing so
The fuck is wrong with you
