    ITT: Assaulting a woman isn’t a crime if I don’t like her.

I’m not trying to play at civility politics here, just reminding people that #MeToo and believe women wasn’t that long ago. Without question, MTG is a monster, but we vote her out instead of cheering violence, January 6th also wasn’t that long ago and we as a society need to be better than those idiots instead of wishing harm to the elected.

It’s not funny to say she deserved it, that’s just repackaging the “she was asking for it” trope.

The only thing I take issue with here is “…we vote her out…”. The majority of Americans have no way of voting her out and she easily won her last re-election. Unless Marjorie starts F’ing up majorly with the GOP, or Georgians start wising up, we may be hearing about her for awhile.

While you are right, calls to violence are extremely inappropriate… MGT is a known liar, and a prolific one at that. It’s not victim blaming to ask for some additional evidence given her difficulty with the truth,

Is it? People can deserve shitty things happening to them without it being their fault. I can someone someone deserved to be hit by lightning without saying they were asking for lightning to hit them.

That’s really not representative of this thread though. Yeah, there’s some shitheads, getting controversial votes and replies. That’s the internet for you.

Its harsh to say, but she is unlikely to change her stance dispite being recently victimized by her world view. In a better worldshe’d be having an epiphany.

Unfortunately, the fediverse is a lot like Reddit where users are more than happy to justify violence and horrible things to other people because they’re from the opposite side of the political and/or socioeconomic spectrum.

Sounds kinda similar to some right-wingers, don’t it?

Yeah. I don’t think she was “asking for it” or “deserves it” either. That’s the kind of language and mentality used by people like Richard McCormick, the man who assaulted her, and I can’t get behind that. Because once we start cheering violence against women (even the evil ones who call for violence themselves), we effectively become part of the problem. We must do better.

Can we cheer for violence against republicans? I don’t remember anyone having much sympathy for the guy who got restrained by the face on the house floor during the mccarthy kerfuffle.
