      Both.

In civilised countries you can still be tried as a child when you are deemed too immature.

Don’t know how it is in France but in Germany this can be the case until you are 27 years old. So while you are for most purposes an “adult” from 18 onwards even a 26 year old can be seen as adolescent. Because the law knows that not all people are the same.

I have to agree with this. I am nearly 50, but I was incredibly immature when I was younger compared to a lot of my peers. And I think individually people need to be assessed based on their maturity levels. It was what it was, and I can’t change it, but my circumstances led to that situation.

Plenty of counselling and an interesting life, which we all have probably had in our own way, has put me in step with the majority of my peers now, but I do believe that people need to be seen as individuals.

It could be a translation thing. In certain parts of France, “ados” is a bit of a catch-all term for anyone in teenager or young adults years. It’s not strictly defined, but would explain the presence of the word in an English translation.

“We charge him with terrorism… Also this loser wasn’t getting enough pussy, which makes him uncool… So up the charges on that basis” -court transcript of new laws being implemented.

You’re going to have to explain this comment a bit more because it sounds like you think men not getting pussy makes them incels instead of them just being disgusting human beings that no one wants to be around.

The word incel is a portmanteau of ‘involuntary celibacy’ so it means, by definition, ‘not getting pussy’

What you’re describing is the etymology of the word, but its actual meaning in public discourse has morphed to “men who see women and any real or perceived slight/rejection from them as the source of all their problems and are thus generally - sometimes extremely - hateful towards them”.

Incel describes most single people. It’s quite a normal state of affairs to not be having sex most of the time if you’re single. Young people need to be told this far more than they are being.

Yep. Given the choice, most people would rather be getting laid. Apparently lemmy finds this idea distasteful.

The charges were terror related, there’s no special extra charge or any new laws being used “for the first time” just because he was an incel…

…also he wasn’t an incel, he was a far-right praising hitler fear of the great replacement teenager.

Pretending that women sleeping with people like that will stop them doing crimes or is somehow a pivotal factor just extends the sex obsessed and objectifying beliefs of that world view.

Using the term incel amplifies the idea that it’s a valid idea. It’s a shitty headline, so I mocked it.

Incel describes most single people. It’s quite normal, we need to stop telling men it’s not normal.

An 18-year-old man suspected of planning attacks against women has been charged by France’s anti-terrorism prosecutors in the country’s first case to be exclusively linked to the “incel” movement.

The suspect, identified as Timothy G., was arrested near a high school in the Saint-Étienne region carrying two knives in his bag. Sources close to the case told the French press agency AFP that he intended to target women and openly identified with the “incel” ideology.

This is the first time the PNAT has handled a case solely involving the incel movement, which had previously appeared marginally in two other terrorism-related cases. One involved a young man from northern France linked to the far right, charged in September 2023 with plans for violent acts. He was described by sources as “an unstable, frustrated young adult rather than an ideologue.” Another case involved four young men, one planning to travel to Syria, two glorifying Hitler and Nazism, and three communicating with a woman who dreamed of bombing a church. Two admired “great replacement” conspiracy theories and mass killers associated with the far right, including Anders Breivik, Brenton Tarrant, and Dylan Klebold. Timothy G. had also shown interest in some of these incidents.

I have no idea what article you’re talking about.

PNAT laws increase the severity of all terrorism related prosecutions. They aren’t aimed at “incels” in particular.

Hitler, great replacement, and communicating with women, aren’t incel traits. That last one in particular.

            That’s far-right stuff.

            Plenty of leftwing incels.

So the anti-terrorism laws have been used before and apply to all terrorism…

My comment is mocking that incel - which basically means single and upset about it, is being made central to the headline.

Just say he’s a misogynist. Pretending it’s something abnormal for single men to not be having sex just extends the premise of “incels” (the idea that they should be upset about it, or that it’s extra).
