WASHINGTON/MOSCOW/KYIV, Aug 16 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Ukraine should make a deal to end the war with Russia because “Russia is a very big power, and they’re not”, after a summit where Vladimir Putin was reported to have demanded more Ukrainian land.

After the two leaders met in Alaska on Friday, Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy that Putin had offered to freeze most front lines if Kyiv ceded all of Donetsk, the industrial region that is one of Moscow’s main targets, a source familiar with the matter said.

Imagine what Putin could’ve built in Russia for the same cost as this stupid war. Every city could have a Los Vegas Sphere in it.

He who drinks with the enemy while his ally bleeds is no hero but a fool. You grant him honor while he seeks to burn your and your ally’s home. No word of peace holds meaning while his sword is still raised against those who stand with you.

Install troops and all weapons in Ukraine and show Putin already god damn it. That makes putin mad? Good that will make EU more unified. And its not like putin is gonna drop nuclear bombs cause thats suicide :) So bring him to his knees.

Threatening nuclear war should never be an option. Nukes are there to prevent nuclear war from happening, if that makes any sense.

doesn’t putin have cancer? what can putin expect if this war fails? does putin actually have the incentives of a reasonable and calm decision maker as your analysis seems to assume, or are his incentives more in line with the extremity of desperation and corruption? If he fails, suicide-by-nuclear-armageddon could just be a way of taking his power back. If he can’t play who’s to say he wont stab big holes in his ball- all our balls- before he fucks off home? What makes you think that genocidal maniac won’t burn the whole world down if he can’t be king if he thinks that’s within his power?

In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Trump signalled that he and Putin had discussed land transfers and security guarantees for Ukraine, and had “largely agreed”.

“I think we’re pretty close to a deal,” he said, adding: “Ukraine has to agree to it. Maybe they’ll say ‘no’.”

Asked what he would advise Zelenskiy to do, Trump said: “Gotta make a deal.”

“Look, Russia is a very big power, and they’re not,” he added.

Yeah, Russia, the very big power, who takes three years and over a million casualties and still hasn’t completed a “special military operation” that totally isn’t even an invasion.

Trump’s brain is trapped in 1970, so for now I guess so are we.

I agree that Russia has performed pathetically in the war, yet European governments still seem to be shitting themselves given their scrambling to increase defence spending. Russia is both strong and weak.

A lot of the increase in defense spending seems to have been in response to America being ruled by Trump and Europe realizing they can’t rely on us for protection anymore. Trump has talked about leaving NATO. When your strongest ally seems to be backing down from defending you, you’re gonna increase defense spending to make sure you can still defend yourself.

There’s also a chance that America will not only be an unreliable ally but an aggressor. They have to defend against that as well as what’s left of Russia’s capabilities (which will again be temporarily strengthened if they sack and destroy Ukraine).

My understanding is that NATO currently has the capacity to absolutely wreck Russia in every engagement, until they run out of ammo. So the new spending is supposed keep them from running out.

Ammo factories ain’t cheap and even getting old machines running takes a tonne of time and money. Fun fact I knew a guy in northern Idaho who worked at an ammo factory with machines that dated back to WW1 though they have been upgraded, he was a racist prick.

Just tell him you need 2 weeks to think it over, but tell him you need 4 days to think it over 3 times, then you’ll do it “tomorrow” and delay 2 more days.

He’ll forget, and you can start over.

WTF do you think Putin is doing? He isn’t in his face 24/7. Occasional dip in and out.

Clown. Give the homicidal maniac a meter and they’ll come back for the kilometer. Actually cedeing this would be giving the kilometer considering they’ve tried this approach with Crimea… who knows what they’d come back for in another couple years.

Considering Russia broke a sovereignty agreement in order to start this war, regardless of their motive, AND violated Georgian sovereignty a couple years before THAT in a bid to annex part of THAT country, AND is attempting to annex parts of Moldova through threat of arms…who in their right mind would agree to ANY peace deal with Russia? It’s not even worth the paper it’s signed on. You’d literally have to have cheese for a brain.

The correct response is to say “no”, and take a page out of the book of Finland, and offer the correct drink to go with their bread baskets.

Bonus points if you get a chance to shower Putin in such a cocktail.
