Well, I just quit a company they bought. Based on the policies and procedures that completely ruined our company culture, I can guess.

If you’re head-in on an MRI at 35, hopefully it’s from an accident.

Siemens made knockoff Nokia phones? I trust Siemens a lot, they’re a quality manufacturer, but I don’t think I ever saw anyone use a Siemens back in the pre-smart phone days.

    From wikipedia:

The phone included a WAP browser and two games: Stack Attack and Balloon Shooter.

    WAP browser you say…

They were very common here, my first ever phone was a Siemens C25, and some years later Siemens A50 was so cheap, a lot of my friends had that. But I guess these couldn’t help the mobile branch of Siemens, it was sold to Benq in 2005. It existed from 1985 to 2005 only.

Maybe the fashion was different based on country, because like I mentioned, in Denmark Nokia was definitely more widespread until the colour screens pre-smart phone era came along.

Sometimes you only want to make one trip but you need a cell phone, building systems control system, and a motor for your electric locomotive. Siemens understands and the got you.

That exact model was kinda common here in Sweden too (along with the countries of others who replied).

I don’t think I’ve seen it since then and the nostalgia hit me like a brick. I distinctly remember how rubbery and mushy the buttons were, in a weirdly good way.

My first - 1999 iirc - was a Siemens. And yes they really felt like cheap Nokia knockoffs.

There also used to be one for the years in between: Amilo. As an early Linux adopter it still makes me shudder.

“uninspired looks” … “the most impressive thing about the V3515 is its (…) price tag”

        *shudder*

There were many Amilos btw. and it stands to reason that some were better but the most common ones were all shitty.

I distinctly remember one that had no Linux driver for its wifi card but it would not accept another one. Vendor lock-in or whatchamacallit.

Branding on a cell phone makes sense in that you want people to see the brand of your customer’s cell phone. There is a lot of people in the market for a new cell phone.

Branding a MRI machine? The people who you use it ain’t going to be buying a MRI.

If they only sold mri machines it’d make much less sense, but they sell a lot of stuff and their name on a healthcare machine increases trust. When you sell stuff like this brand perception can go a very long way. That aside execs and designers might feel very proud to have produced this machine. But carry on with your scepticism, it’s good practice.

They very well may be. And with a company like Siemens the branding can build brand recognition and indicate quality. Maybe you aren’t buying an MRI but if you have to buy industrial equipment or specialty electronics you’re gonna run into them sometimes
