Most STI panels don’t test for herpes because it’s so prevalent.

I did an STI panel after every partner and was completely clean, but what I’ve heard (not sure if it’s true or not) is that if you get cold sores it’s basically indistinguishable from the ones downstairs and HSV is harder to test for than others. My doc could explain it better, no doubt.
Idk, the ol’ herp is an interesting retrovirus. But I think something like 6 in 10 people have one of the two forms. I really did try to do everything to make sure I was good to go before hopping in bed with someone else. Not that anyone is saying I didn’t, just wanted to make that known.

Not always. If someone has an outbreak and either goes down on their partner or isn’t careful with their fingers (touch the sore, then the genitals) that can turn into genital herpes.
