Of course, ice cream was involved.
President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, hosted a thank you event on Thursday for hundreds of staffers who worked on the reelection campaign that he chose to exit nearly three weeks ago.
Judging by the security tents, the location offered a dose of political nostalgia: The staffers met with Biden at The Queen, a music venue that played a critical role in his successful race for presidency in 2020, when he often spoke to the public from the theater’s stage.
After having dropped out of the race, Biden wanted to show his appreciation for the staff’s work over the past year and their continued efforts in support of Vice President Kamala Harris, who succeeded him as the Democratic nominee. That’s according to a person familiar with the president’s plans who shared details of the events but insisted on anonymity to discuss the arrangements.
The event featured food and, naturally for Biden, his beloved ice cream.
It’s funny that “enjoys ice cream” became a defining political trait for Biden. Like, yes he does, but basically everyone does.
I wouldn’t be surprised to learn Trump is indifferent about ice cream.
I might wonder if he is anti-ice-cream.
Actually, as CNN reported 7 years ago, in the Trump White House, the rule was that Trump got two scoops while everyone else only got one.

Is it love for ice cream or just enjoying the power of having more than the others?
Have you seen the Ali G bit with the ice cream glove?
I mean 36% of Americans are lactose intolerant. And the far right, weirdly views dairy consumption as some kind of high status…
I have never met a lactose intolerant person that didnt, upon mentioning it when they inevitably buy something full of lactose, look me dead in the eye and confirm their terrible intolerance before going into a frightening lactose-consuming frenzy that chilled me to my very core.
They know the price they must pay. They laugh at death and spit in the face of genetics. A grim, dangerous people, the lactose intolerant.
I pay the price everyday and I will never stop consuming delicious dairy even as it hurts me so much.
So like, I confirm this.
There are pills these days that are very good at breaking down lactose for you if you take them before eating
Yeah, but most of the lactose intolerant people I know constantly forget to take them, lol.
I mean 36% of Americans are lactose intolerant.
That just means ice cream is anti-them, not the other way around.
Vegan ice cream can be fantastic, so it’s not just a dairy thing.
I guess, but can is doing a lot of hefty lifting…
The don’t cry over spilled silk at cold stone is sooo good.
Ben & Jerry make amazing ones. That brand that does Avocado ice cream is surprisingly really good (I was very skeptical). Nada Moo Cookies and Cream is pretty good.
Not ice cream, but a lot of the Talenti sorbets are also vegan and very good.
You can make a pretty good homemade version by blending bananas and avocado together and freezing it.
Frozen fruit and fruit juice makes a great creamy fruity ice cream. Add some coconut milk too
Not as much as it used to. There’s some very good vegan ice cream out there. Just expect to pay more and have less selection.
views dairy consumption as some kind of high status…
Is that a thing or an exaggeration?
That’s hilarious, because historically in Europe milk drinking was viewed as something peasants did and calling Europeans butter stinkers is one of my more favorite insults.
Middle Eastern people have been drink milk longer; I guess we have a new master race?
Seriously, these people never cease to disappoint in their weird metrics to prove themselves better than others.
I don’t like ice cream. It tastes like guilt.
I love how the Genital Observation Party can’t poke fun at Biden while he does Biden. Combined with the Harris/Walz fervour, the fascists are reeling…

Do you… think they have a gun to his head? Or that he’d care if they did?
He believed in Harris when he campaigned with her as his Vice Presidental Nominee. He believes in her now for POTUS. But more importantly, he believes in stopping Trump, Project 2025, and fascist rule in the US. (And he’s still popular with older voters in certain swing states.) Let him do what he wants!

Where… what is coming from? I’m not attacking you but you said we should let him go. In fact you said it twice. If one of the most powerful people in the world wants to do something, I’m sure it’s their preference. Right…??

I’m a right-wing conspiracy theorist!? You must be out of your mind! Maybe you saw like one sarcastic comment??
I invite anyone else to prove me “right”…
Anyway, my only point is that he can do what he wants. And is.

Lol, no. We’re not going to continue discussing anything until you defend your comment:
checked your post history and turns out you’re a right wing conspiracy theorist.
So please. Out of my 3,000 posts in the past year please link any right-wing conspiracies at all! I’ll wait…
Biden is a good man. I would have voted for him again but he’s doing the best thing for everyone, especially his family, by ending it now.
I will always respect him for what he’s done.
The hexbear honeypot stikes again lmao
Biden is a Genocidal Nazi who deserves to burn in hell.
It’s more like a Swiss banker. Yeah, you’ll help people do a genocide but you don’t get one of the really bad circles in Hell.
No, that’s Netanyahu. You’re mixing the two up.
Biden could end the war with a phone call. Dude’s responsible for genocide, sorry.
How? Short of authorizing military action against Israel, how? We could revoke military aid, we could get allies to potentially do the same, but I highly doubt we could stop Israel without any fight. They have enough of a homegrown defense industry and enough manpower and political will that they would deal with anyone who’ll give them the raw material needed to continue.
Israel cannot survive without US support. I didn’t realize that would be a contentious statement.
And who do you think gave him the weapons of the money to do it?
Did he get one or two scoops
but did he take 2 scoops?
We really do live in the stupidest timeline.
Hmmm. You know those phony “bring the neighborhood together events?”
I think it would be way better with an ice cream bar.
Maybe I’ll make a huge ice cream bar social thing. It’ll cost way too much, but who the fuck says no to free ice cream?
politics aside, nothing says ‘im fucking old’ quite like ‘im throwing an ice cream social’
As opposed to an ice cream antisocial. Which is just Dairy Queen.
This also qualifies as an ice cream antisocial: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/comment/10137657
Dude I WISH ice cream socials were more popular.
the last one i attended was in 1988
Sounds like you could make some homemsde,l with neighbors, outside, with an old-fashioned, hand -cranked maker, recruiting different neighbor kids to sit on top of the towel, to keep the ice in the tub
Who are these ice cream hating fools?!
I have a love-hate relationship with ice cream. I love the way it tastes. I hate that even taking lactose pills I still have “issues” with the aftermath. Also, that’s a lot of calories to burn off.
I’d eat an ice cream cone with Joe, any day.
Sorbet is where it’s at. Every ice cream social or whatever should always have a non-dairy option. Fresh sorbet is so fuckin good.
Dairy free ice cream is fire.
I don’t like ice cream because I’m vegan, but I’m not complaining about this event any more than I would a sausage sizzle or a cheese tasting parlour. I think it’s cute
So much vegan ice cream out there.
If Biden didn’t serve any dairy ice cream at this event, then I applaud him.
I’m 40 years old and I can assure you there is no point in my life where I would have scoffed at being invited to an ice cream event.
Ice cream is cool, man.
Hurry up, ladies. This ain’t no ice cream social
Anyone… want to guess… why I gathered you here… today?
People in here eating up propaganda like it’s ice cream.
Apparently I’m the only one that remembers Biden loudly declaring “I’m not going anywhere!” right after he completely choked in that debate.
He was forced out. I really wish people would stop acting like he’s some kind of a hero. People would still be trying to convince us that he’s not too old if the DNC hadn’t straight up forced him out.
A whole lot of short memories for politics.
And here, dear readers, is a wild someone angered by the state of everything today. They no longer can believe good people exist and, even making an exception for the bad, that good choices can be made. So they seek out truths that match their perspective and attempt to mold in reasons that don’t quite fit what they’re trying to say. Moreover, they forget that at the end of any single day a good choice was made, which is sort of the point.
Hahaha.
The person drinking straight from the propaganda fountain saying that I’m the delusional one.
At least I can identify propaganda.
Oh, and news flash, we are in an exceptionally low point in American history. Everything is actually falling apart. You think that having the oldest president ever who is clearly just a puppet is a sign of political health? And he’s supposed to be the good guy?
Get real. There are a number of serious crises looming over the American people and our government is too concerned with lining their own pockets and making corporations more important than voters, and we are doing nothing about it.
What propaganda are you talking about? He’s leaving office, so what is left to manipulate here other than his legacy, which doesn’t really impact anyone?
He originally said he’d be a one term president. He only changed that stance when he believed staying in the race was necessary to beat Trump. Once it was clear that he wasn’t the best candidate to defeat Trump, he stepped aside and immediately and publicly backed Kamala. How hard is this to understand? Not hard at all, which is why I think you’re full of shit.
If you think that that old ass man that kept falling down, making up fair stories, and usually didn’t know where he was was actually making these decisions then you are absolutely dreaming.
Dude was so obviously a puppet. I promise you that he didn’t make this decision.
You promise me? Oh well then, guess I better trust you. Nobody is this dumb dude…
Excellent answer.
Whether it was planned or just fell out this way, this is probably the best outcome we could hope for. Trump and Putin and their assortment of flying monkeys were lining up the ‘he’s just OLD’ attacks, hoping to ride that into the White House in January. Then Biden withdrew and now the ‘he’s just OLD’ points right back at Trump.
Shitheads like abracaDavid above keep harping on Biden’s age when Biden’s not even in the race again really makes me question how much the attacks against Biden were astroturfed by Trump and Putin (but I repeat myself).
It’s getting so bad for Trump that he’s out there fanning conspiracy theories during his monthly rally (singular) that Biden is going to put himself back on the ballot at the DNC. This all just sounds like a bunch of wishful thinking from a loser who wishes he were still competing against another old guy. Trump can’t even keep up with Harris and Walz, which is why he has Peter Thiel’s blood boy out there doing most of the campaigning. Sad and weird.
Chef’s kiss on this.
He was lying to the GOP so they’d keep focusing all of their propaganda on him until after the RNC, and then when he dropped out and endorsed Kamala, the Rs had absolutely no idea what to do and she’s been wiping the floor with them ever since. It was a mastermind 4D chess move.
Hahaha oh man that’s a good one.
The DNC is their own biggest enemy. They’ve been fumbling elections for decades.
Acting like this was some kind of mastermind plan and not just pure dumb luck requires some intense faith paired with mental gymnastics.
No wonder people have started calling y’all Blue Maga.
missed an opportunity to mention the genocide.
So bringing up the genocide is bad?
No, it should be brought up.
The platonic ideal of bringing up the genocide is good. But you McNuggetHeads keep bringing up the genocide as an nonsense excuse to abstain from voting against an even bigger genocide, so when a centrist like yourself brings up the genocide, yes it is bad.
True, but he did step down. He deserves a scoop.
I just don’t believe he had a choice in the matter.
The guy barely knows where he is from moment to moment.
