Shit like that doesn’t need to be debated.

Even in Ancient Rome they had a grain dole that… paid for itself! With interest! Because the poor who would otherwise struggle to buy wheat or barley got it, and could buy other stuff, even luxury items. The result is that more and more trade flowed directly to Rome and people made a bundle doing it.

And also less hungry people means less desperate people and it means more stability. Something that basically everyone wants.

But yes, these same right-wing grifters even attacked the grain dole in Ancient Rome as if it lead to the fall of the Roman Empire.

Pretty simple when it’s spelled out like that.

But then… It’s troubling, that even this simple’s still out of reach for some short sighted greedy stupid smugnorant hypocritical parasitic narcissistic trolls.

But giving away grain to peasants is why the entire empire fell to ruin! Letting people starve is the most humane way of reducing hunger in the long run, it just takes strong leadership to do what most be done. Really, it’ll be faster, easier, and cheaper (which is by definition better for everyone) if we help accelerate things. Which will be the next bit of societal tough love that Crowder will be taking the high road on.

Legitimately every Republican I met is defending themselves, from taking money from the Government, while every leftest is fighting for everyone else to take money from gov programs. Why are retardpublicans so worried about poor people taking from the rich while also stealing the same benefits from working Americans who need it. “Riches for me but no one else” is literally their tagline

They’ll say “if they’re clever enough to not pay taxes then that’s fine by me!” as billionaires pay less than 1% real tax because they get to write the laws and then they’ll claim that a city bike lane has stolen their tax money.

They’re stupid as hell. Like, profundly fucking stupid. Conservatives are so pathetic and I’m embarrassed to be considered part of the same species as them.

If that’s 33 years, then that would mean an individual gets $2121 a year, or $176 a month. Either the SNAP benefits are garbage or this person is exaggerating.

I think it’s more than that, they are heavily invested in a rather nasty version of the “just world hypothesis”: if bad stuff happens to these people, like being poor and hungry, it’s because they are bad and deserve it.

It’s the same logic at play for blaming victims or rape and sexual violence.

Because the alternative, that the world isn’t fair and horrible stuff happens to good people and good things also happen to horrible people, is too unpleasant and exhausting to contemplate and requires complex thought.

Oh yup, they love that circular reasoning bias, eh? The cart is supposed to go before the horse. They are rich because god wants them to be. The poor are poor because god is judging them. Pay no attention to the suffering, or you’re going against god!

Oh to start teaching philosophy and epistemology to children. Then maybe fewer would grow up with such harmful toxic dogmatic ideologies riddled with this circular reasoning fallacy.

I just don’t get the “fuck you I got mine” mentality. There’s no empathy from these people. They think everyone who is poor made dumb choices and poor people should suffer for making those dumb choices. After all, just getting a job will sort everything right out according to conservatives, and getting a job is easy to them. They have never been affected by conditions that lead to poverty and it shows.

A lot of it has to do with an inflated view of one’s self and persecusion complex. Studies have shown that the more conservative one is the better off one thinks they will be. When the whole inheritance tax was being talked about all these poor conservtives thought some day they will be so well off the tax would affect them when in reality their lifetime gross income wouldn’t be enough if they saved it all. The whole “work hard and you will get everything” idea is burned into their brains inspite of reality.

When you then look at any achievement by these same people they make it out to be some crazy effort on their side. All hardships were the extreme and targeting them, in their warped view. They don’t realize their struggles were the same as everyone else and they were helped out in many ways that no one ever picks themselves up by their bootstraps.

So they have this “my life was the worst” and “i pulled myself up with no help” view of their lives that everyone else is just shit. In reality they are so delusional that even common decency is forign to them. Pile on that many are Christians if poor and narcissist and sociopaths if rich the complex grow many fold.

I think this is closer. I read once that the happiest people in the world were conservatives living in countries with a strong social safety net, and lots of government subsided programs, because they simultaneously benefited from the programs and believed their success was something they achieved on their own.

So even if they were poor and got out, they take a different lesson from it. Not “there but for the grace of God go I” or “wow, I’m so glad I got subsidized education and food when I needed it so that I could get here” but more “I got mine fuck you”

They have never been affected by conditions that lead to poverty and it shows.

But if you go somewhere like Idaho or Mississippi… They’re all fucking poor!! Everyone is poor! Everyone lives hand to mouth and depends on social safety nets like this. But if you’re proper homeless then fuck you, no you don’t deserve any help?

Blows my mind how entire self contained societies can all equally experience this kind of hardship and then instead of “I don’t want anyone else to suffer like we had to”, they instead conclude “I had to suffer like this, therefore everyone must suffer like this”.

SNAP shouldn’t be necessary for anyone who works. The fact that in America someone can have a job and yet still needs SNAP to survive is absolutely disgusting and disrespectful. Pay people a living wage jfc.

A new law should be passed, if you have a job and qualify for SNAP then your employer needs to increase your pay by 100 percent until you don’t qualify for SNAP anymore.

Or we just stop the system where the corporations could buy laws to enable this, and their brutal enforcement.

The reason why laws are important, why you believe they’re just, is because they’re supposed to be the aggregate will of the people, and in practice, they’re just not.

The only people ive ever talked to who thought the state should need to support someone who was working full time with food and housing and stuff is tankies, actual ML’s who believed that that should be the core of the state. I guess in their ideal world there wouldn’t be anything fucked up about that, but we don’t live there.

It’s not just the laws that are fucked here, its the entire system of law as thing that expresses and protects what people and communities want that has been almost precisely reversed in function, and whose enforcers make all of us live in fear. That’s what needs to be fixed. The underlying systems that are not doing what it says on the package, because that’s not what they were ever for. To continue trying to tweak the gun to your head until it cleans dirt off your floor is insane and unreasonable.

What did the Walton’s for example actually do to control this much of the economy, to direct so much of it to their own whims and personal enrichment with no regard for or even explicit exclusion of the rest of us? Who thinks it was anything that deserved that kind of wealth?

Edit: yeah, ‘just’. Repeating wasted labor to fix a system that’s working perfectly an only wants to manipulate you is a lot more work with greater human cost than ripping the band-aid off and remaking society.

What did the Walton’s for example actually do

I have a chud ex-friend who died on the hill of defending the Waltons (and other maga bs). Dude had always been an asshole but reached new lows of pathetic boot-licking with the Waltons. It’s seems strange but that’s actually the hegemonic ideology. Completely normal.
