That should really not be legal. Without knowing their names, how can the defendants know if the prosecutors have conflicts of interest or are even legally allowed to practice law?

While I agree and understand what you’re saying. I think you might need to understand that that does not matter. The illusion of law and order is being destroyed.

They control the monopoly on violence. The pen is not mightier than the sword. The pen is only mightier than the sword when the pen results in a bigger sword being built.

There is no bigger sword. The fascist control our police, military, and federal agents. And unless the people of this country suddenly gain class consciousness we won’t have anything to fight back with.

You will not win against fascist by trying to appeal to “rights” and trying to get others to “bring back what we had”.

What we had lead us to this point in the first place. We had an illusion of a democracy and justice that was only ever going to last until it’s contradictions could no longer be ignored.

You will not defeat fascist by pointing to their hypocrisy. They thrive because they are here to defend the very systems of oppression that were already filled with hypocrisy and contradictions in the first place.

Sigh…I know you’re right. The law doesn’t matter anymore, at least for them. I think it is important though to never let this sort of thing become something you see as normal. It is still alarming, even if something alarming like this happens every day.

That should really not be legal.

It shouldn’t be allowed, but unfortunately the immigration court system has always been fucked.

Immigration courts don’t operate under Article 3. They’re run by the DOJ and the AG. I probably don’t have to say much more there. It’s always been awful, but given the current administration you can assume that it’ll be even worse than usual.

      “Judges”

I say that in “scare quotes” because they are literally not judges and it is not a court. They are not part of the judicial branch. They are bureaucrats of the administrative Executive branch that started cosplaying a couple decades ago to project an impression of legitimacy and finality.

Correct, but I think you meant Executive branch, not “administrative branch.” Immigration judges work directly for the Executive branch under the DoJ and thus take their orders directly from Trump. Essentially, they are ICE in dresses rather than body armor and masks. Though I imagine the next step will be for them to also put on masks and to redact their names from all the filings and rulings so that they will never face the wrath they so richly deserve.

Whoops! Slip of the thumb. Thanks for catching that. I was thinking “administrators of the Executive branch” and it morphed before I got it out.

They are hiding their names because they know what they are doing is illegal or unconstitutional and they fear retribution or prosecution. She is young, the fascists will be gone before the end of her life, and she knows the reformers will be coming for her.

We now have another “it could never happen here” bingo ball.

Remember when a secret court found Hilary guilty of whatever? Secret courts have been a favorite of right wing conspiracy theorists for a long time.

Now we are one step closer. Lawyers for the government are standing before judges without any as accountability because they aren’t giving their names.

Any judge should hold them in contempt and file a disbarment petition with the bar association if this happens on their watch.

Secret lawyers are a step closer to secret courts. But for real. Not the conspiracies that we used to laugh at.

Holding the lawyer in contempt and in jail unless and until they’re willing to name themselves openly for the record would be fine. I really like the idea of contempt meaning jail for obstructive behaviour, because it’s a “time out” for entitled adults.

This isn’t Twitter; it’s court. Rot in a cell or state your name for the permanent record.

Oh neat. Nothing a little FOIA Can’t remedy.

Your name is required to be printed on the court’s reported meeting minutes. Its our tax dollars at work 😁

I mean shit. The support person DMing their coworker in Slack about the judges inability to use zoom is documented and FOIAable. You can’t hide in the courtroom.
