A microwave plate is the part that spins during heating. It can be removed so it’s easier to clean. Removing it means that food will potentially heat unevenly and there’s usually a gear that the plate attaches to sticking out of the floor like a wart. Anything being heated will have to balance or lean on a slowly spinning gear which will potentially cause other problems.

You reminded me that some have a full bladed structure on wheels attached to that gear as a means of spinning the plate. Pulling this prank on one of those models would be even more diabolical.

I’ve got one of those. First the plate broke, so we got a new one. Then we moved and somehow lost the rollers. Now neither fit right and I want a new microwave but this one works (except for the turntable sometimes) dammit

The joke is that you can’t just buy the plate > in a quick manner and must order the replacement and will have to just…suck it up. And the absurdity of what such a theft entails.AFAIK the plates are not standard (probably proprietary to that model/brand) so by taking it you probably have to get a whole new microwave if you want it back.

E:thank you for the numerous replies saying they are standardized and replaceable.

They have become fairly standard due to consolidation of global manufacturing. I’ve taken apart a half dozen over the last decade and they all had the same slow mains motor and 3 wing drive mechanism. There are probably lots of exceptions, but the parts inside are pretty simple.

if you know the size of the plate you can just go on the internets. the only real variations I see are the diameter. if it’s got bearings underneath, now those can be a bastard to size right.

            Disagree. It is textbook comedy/tragedy.

The victim has been disproportionately inconvenienced to GREAT irritation. The plate can be replaced quickly and at very little cost. The microwave is in no way damaged permanently, and indeed will still work without the plate.

Yet therein lies the absurdity. Someone went out of their way to steal your turntable. It has zero value to them. They cannot resell it or use it themselves, as all microwaves come with one.

The link Is to a john mulaney bit where he has a friend who steals irreplacable family photos. Just to prove that this kind of senseless protest (like stealing a microwave dish or remote batteries) is infact comedy. I Have seen the bit you are referencing tho. I cannot remember the comedian for the life of me. I want to say dane cook but i havent watched him in YEARS and i cant find it.

Ahaha that’s wild, listened right after commenting - the only thing that you can’t replace!

It was totally Dane Cook, prob this! Not sure if I revisit the clip, is he still funny to me? Maybe I should keep the memories :)

Meanwhile Mulaney was hilarious; he still is but he used to be too
