I’d still go. I’d find it macabre and funny, it wouldn’t make me anxious. Private plane!

Humans like to believe a lot of stupid stuff without evidence, and feel like it becomes more true the more other people believe in the same stupid stuff.

I really don’t get the joke.

I mean I think I get it, but it isn’t funny.

The joke is that the physicists cancelled because of the possibility that it crashes?

I’m genuinely curious what you thought the joke was when you thought they were all physicists. Also I’d be way more afraid to get on a plane that a bunch of physicists came to a consensus that it was unsafe rather than a bunch of whacky scam artists that thought was unsafe because magic beans or whatever.

They could not do a prediction before they booked the flight nor when they scheduled the event? So their powers are limited to same-day predictions? Probably low-level NPCs.

That’s still pretty good. Waking up and knowing that the day is lost and you may as well go back to sleep would be wonderful.

This is a psychological evaluation test. Please choose the answer you deem most likely to explain the event.

    Question 1

A group of people scheduled to go to the same event all decide not to go, why?

    A. The event is cancelled

    B. The group rescheduled

    C. They all, individually, have super powers

      D. They all, individually, have superpowers and predicted a disaster would happen. However, their future vision is predicated on the fact that they’ll all be on the plane. Them all choosing not to go will have significantly altered the outcome of a potential future event.

      In short; you’re probably safe.

Technically, their inability to predict a crash doesn’t prevent a crash – you might die all the same (it’s particularly grim that, according to the meme, even their supposed clairvoyance wouldn’t prevent a crash because they presumably would just quietly avoid going).

Imagine being the person who has that ability, it always comes true and letting your friends know, and the ones who believe you don’t go on it, but the person at Delta Airlines doesn’t believe you, so they won’t tell the pilot to not go. Gotta transport all that cargo…

There might also just be one ot two with that super power among them, but if the rest knows how accurate their power is (or at least believes as much), them sending a message around “I woke up from a vivid dream about being on a crashing plane today, I’m staying tf home” might be enough to make everyone else cancel.

        Idk probably A.

If rescheduling, it would have to be extremely last minute if the airline did not have time to rebook seats. That would be disruptive to everyone and basically just means second event at the same cost as the first which sort of unravels the benefit of rescheduling.

Also. If they are all psychic, why would they book flights then cancel them? 🤔

      I thought the same thing.

I was like “there were Ziggy cartoons in 2015?!” But yep, Ziggy is apparently still ongoing.

The most recent one is also about airplanes. “We’ve upgraded you to early deplaning, here’s your parachute!”

Wow so the animation is really from 2015? It even looks ancient and aged, circa 1980s. And wouldn’t it be in poor taste for any syndicated humor comic to make 9/11 jokes?

Yep, it’s actually from 2015! The artist is the original Ziggy artist’s son (literally Tom Wilson and Tom Wilson II), so I’m sure he intentionally references the old art style.

I think this is more of a general plane crash joke than a 9/11 joke. It’s not specific about where the plane is going and lots of plane crashes happened between September 11, 2001 and November 27, 2015 (when the comic was published).

I’d be surprised if Ziggy didn’t make pretty much the same joke in the 1970s-1980s!

Plot twist the only reason the plane was going to crash was because of all the psychics. It’ll fly perfectly safely with one passenger.

I think true psychism in the universe does not allow for confirmation of what psychics predict. The universe reacts in a way beyond our ken. The plane will land just fine.

Yeah, but then you gotta watch out for all those little Rube Goldberg death traps coming for you for like, forever. Is that really a life worth living?

My first cross-country flight/flight of any kind was a red-eye in one of those planes with the middle rows (plus rows left and right). It was so empty that me, my friend, and my dad could all lie down across entire rows. It really did not set realistic expectations for what future air travel would be like. “Damn, it’s fuckin’ NICE back here in coach. Don’t. Mind. If. I. Do.”
