My mate keeps complaining about not being able to afford a house mortgage, but keeps buying a new car every two years. I’ve been thinking of broaching him on it.
This is my brother-in-law. He complains about his partner and how she doesn’t save like him (he makes more than her) and how they/he can’t afford a house but he spent $20,000 on camera equipment last year (it’s a hobby, not a job for him), has bought and sold 3 motorcycles since I’ve known him (progressively more expensive), and puts a lot of money into his other hobbies.
The housing market (at least in the US) is shit and everything’s overpriced right now but at some point your own choices need to be considered.
Sweet wrap tho
Yeah, but you’re poor in style.
Why did we stop using Louvers?
Because they were invented before computer simulations of airflow. It turns out they do exactly the opposite of what people thought and actually pull the car upwards instead of pushing it down.
What if I just want to look cool and have some sun shade for my rear window
Nothing wrong with that, you just can’t have that and a fast racecar.
I just remembered I drive a honda so I’m not getting a fast racecar no matter what I do
Sounds like you haven’t added enough vtec decals yet.
Type R(egret)
Did we really need computer simulations? Can’t you use like smoke and a leaf blower?
I thought they were for preventing people from being able to see into the hatchback area without having to cut the cargo capacity in half with a parcel shelf.
What’s life if you can’t have a little fun?
lol these are only like 30k new.
If that was a financial mistake, perhaps the plate should stay “STILLPOOR”.
This, I should mention, is coming from someone who has never had $30k in his life and drives an older model of one of these cars (which i fucking love, btw).
It’s not that the car is relatively affordable that has made him poor, it’s the mods. I’ve seen people spend multiple times the MSRP of a car in mods alone, which is a poor decision to do with this car because it’s entire purpose was to be an affordable sports car.
Couldn’t be me.
Totally not waiting for a ~4000eur parts delivery for this exact same model of car tomorrow.
My Miata says hi.
Cool, i love the anticipation for new parts. 4k in parts, i’m guessing turbo kit?
Nah, I want it to stay completely legal (turbo conversions would either be illegal or cost tens of thousands to get TUV approved here) It’s just a bunch of NA mods, headers, new exhaust, flywheel, all that
While I’m sure there are people modding cars thinking they’ll get their money back most of us understand that it’s not a good financial decision
I had about $3500 in parts waiting for me to take delivery of my Alltrack
I managed to get mine on height adjustable coil-overs and aftermarket wheels without breaking the bank, but yeah, I’ve seen some folks that do pour money into engines and cosmetics. Fair point lol
Under 25 trying to insure a wrapped coupe might have something to do with it
ah yeah, age is a factor.
When I got mine, I was switching from a corolla and was expecting a hefty insurance hike, but it only went up by $5 a month lol
Also, this was the original which was sold by the now-dead Scion brand. This could be as old as a 2012 model. I suppose at that age, throwing money at it could be well described as a financial mistake.
I own a 2013 FR-S.
Unless this is rebadged, idt they were sold under the Toyota brand in the US until I think 2016. I could be wrong, of course, but this looks newer.
Regardless, outside of whatever mods they’ve got, mine is as old as they get and has no problems at all (other than the damn door checks lol), so age alone isn’t a reason to throw money at it.
I am so thankful for the FR-S. I have a 2015 Scion tC, and when the FR-S dropped Scion updated the design language of the gen 2 tC (2011-2013) to the gen 2.5 (2014-2016) to copy some of the language of the FR-S, and it looks SO MUCH BETTER.
(Such a fun little car. Not as much fun as the FR-S, I’m sure, but a 2-door Corolla with a Camry/RAV-4 engine and a six-speed manual transmission is a blast, let me tell you.)
tCs are super cool too! I looked at a couple when I was shopping around, but I wanted rear wheel drive.
I didn’t even know how to drive stick when I bought it, so I didn’t want to have to learn both stick and RWD. Especially not with the ice and snow we get here in Michigan. 😅
lol yeah, there’s no ice or snow here, that would have definitely been a deciding factor for me as well
Didn’t they also have the thinner Prius wheels? I seem to recall that this made then much easier to drift/break the back loose.
Honestly I don’t know. But I do know it was pretty understeer prone when stock, so I’m not sure.
At that age? That’s still a newish car. Newer than anything I’ve owned. I drive a 30 something year old car and never had any car troubles.
“Only 30k”!?
You’re fucking joking, right? Twenty years ago a $30,000 car was expensive and unobtainable for me, and it still is today. I can only dream of owning a car that expensive. My budget has never been above $10K, and that’s why I drive a 350Z.
So you’re poor like me and the guy in the pic.
That’s not a new car, and I doubt he bought it new. Probably cost what your 350Z did.
Isn’t this the FT86? It shouldn’t break anyone’s bank.
Toyota GR86. Started as the FRS, and Subaru produces their BRZ model. Last year I almost bought one new and iirc it was about $33k in my market (before taxes/registration/dealer fees).
A $500 shitbox would put me in debt rn… 😩
Could have bought a Porsche instead of those dumb mods
Taking oneself ever so seriously with a Porsche or being absolutely fabulous in a modded Toyota. Tough choice.
I’ve always wanted a 2008 Porsche Cayman, is that too much to ask like jeez
The dumbness in on purpose
