Apparently ultra-high-IQ people like to use comma splices too.
I wish I could remember the story but there was a guy that joined Mensa so he could con people. It worked too which rather seems to suggest that the entry requirements are not all that stringent.
Or IQ is a useless measure
Or computational intelligence isn’t the same thing as skepticism
… Or wisdom.
And over-identifying woth it is something arrogant shit heads who are easy to con do.
Unlike me. I’m better than that.
I think their entry requirements are doing exactly what they’re supposed to.
The problem is that intelligence, even if we could measure it correctly, doesn’t and shouldn’t imply what a person knows, nor their experiences and the wisdom that they carry.
Someone can be learned with a low IQ. Someone can be wise and similarly low IQ. In the same way, someone with a high IQ can be unwise.
The problem with having only one individual metric for a group which believes themselves to compose the smartest people, is that they’re arrogant. I know plenty of people who are so extremely intelligent that I am certain that they could be a part of Mensa; yet, they are not. When they looked into it, they decided it would be unwise to become a member, given the requirements and the attitudes of, and about, the group.
Hell, there’s a decent chance I could get in. I’ve never tried and I don’t care to, for all the same reasons, so I would never know if I could “make it” or not.
Their arrogance and hubris is their undoing.
As a big booty latino I feel both interested and offended by this.
Also, don’t take our big booty latinas pls. We need them for <reasons>.
Go find yourself an IQ 300 mensa nerd. They need you
A reddit mod for a mensa sub sounds like possible the most insufferable combination imaginable
If you happened to have an unusually high IQ, why you would you choose to join Mensa, or be a moderator on Reddit for that matter?
The smartest thing you can do is obfuscate your level of intelligence, not brag about it. That’s just how you end up doing more work and getting blamed by everyone around you.
Obfuscate your intelligence? Being a reddit mod sounds like it’s part of the plan, then.
And yet, their comment was on point. Maybe its like w double negative
Fuck Reddit and Fuck Spez.
as someone who qualifies for mensa but like, i ain’t paying a subscription fee to be in the smart people club, that sounds really dumb (and also IQ testing is sketchy at best to begin with)
yes, i always appreciate a big booty, on any ethnicity or gender, so latinas are indeed included
I took their online test out of curiosity and it said I was qualified to join. It was interesting to figure out the mechanism of it though.
From what I gathered, it seems what they’re really measuring is your capacity for pattern recognition and association or something along those lines.
I was curious too. I heard that online test didn’t mean shit, so I did an “official” Mensa Test and well, trust me, you don’t want to join.
following is a summary of a real conversation that I witnessed:
A parent sought advice, their child would fake being sick to avoid school within the first 2 weeks of the first school year. After some conversation, the parent expresses 2 opinions, 1. that they think their child gets bullied and 2. That the child couldn’t express themself well enough to communicate what the issue is. So they just assumed that their child gets bullied, because if my child would tell me that their classmates are mean, I would call that express themself quite well for that age. Then in the conversation, they talk about how they thought their child how to write and read. So they are wondering why their child doesn’t want to go to school after their child was forced to sit in a chair for hours, being taught the alphabet for hours that the child already knew. I wonder 🤔 can someone here tell us why the child doesn’t want to sit in a chair for hours, writing down the same letter again and again as practice for something that they are already able to do? Does someone know?
They really couldn’t figure that one out.
Isn’t this what most of IQ tests do? I sometimes take them because it’s fun to solve the pattern tasks but I feel like it’s nearly impossible to test the really interesting things like transfer and problem solving capabilities in a reliable way at least in this kind of way.
Haha I always thought that people running mensa are the real geniuses for basically selling self-esteem
Exactly! Mensa is essentially the filter for people who think they’re smart but actually aren’t.
IQ testing as many other things, has racist origins and is for all intents and purposes quite useless imo
In the process of diagnosing ADHS (dyslexia, other) disabilities, a IQ test is used to establish a baseline of what other people with a similar result can and cannot do and this is compared to what you can and cannot do.
IQ tests do have uses.
Yup, just like BMI. It’s useful for things and the doctors are aware it isn’t perfect but that’s not what the general population thinks.
People are allergic to nuance.
“BMI is useless if you have a lot of muscle weight” - Guy with a lot of fat weight
Literally. I’ve had this happen, and then he proceeded to claim that obesity as a concept was not real. 💀
dang, i wish they did that for my adhd diagnosis, because i kept looking normal on my tests and had to go on a manhunt to find a doctor who has adhd as well, so they could just vibe check me (and i did, but before that i spent a lot of money on futile tests)
paying a subscription
Waat (screaming in a low iq)
Mensa is for people smart enough to qualify, but dumb enough to get scammed.
Get scammed? I pay the yearly couple of euros mainly for access to the discussion groups. Sometimes I scroll and notice the dumbest shit and every single time it’s a post from a non-mensa group dirtying up my feed. There really is a noticable difference.
So what types of discussions do you get in places where us dumb dumbs aren’t allowed?
This place is similar due to how niche is it. You won’t see your dumb neighbour or loud relative here. The discussion topics are mostly the same as anywhere else, it’s just that you won’t get the type of comments that makes you sigh and scroll faster.
Imagine stack overflow on steroids.
Well, yeah. But with a pleasant, welcoming tone. And very seldom about programming.
yearly couple of euros
Ok, that’s sensible
there’s a yearly membership fee
No, high iq people like big tiddy latinas.
Perfection
I’ll consider this an IQ test and apply for Mensa
Gotta be dumb af to not like big booty latinas
Damn right, that’s why I married one.
so true
Ok, so there is a pattern to this, and it has nothing to do with IQ per se.
It has everything to do with political alignment. And it’s a multi-variant association (1. booty v. boobs, and 2. race / ethnicity / religion).
I’ll use US-centric political terminology here.
Hear me out:
-
Men who prefer big healthy asses tend to lean left/Democrat/liberal/progressive. Men who prefer big boobs tend to lean right/Republican/conservative/fash.
-
Men who are willing to date outside their own race / ethnicity tend to be more progressive than those who prefer to stay within their own race / ethnicity (although progressives can happily find partners within their own ethnic group, too; whereas conservative almost always look within their own ethnicity first).
So, an appreciation for big booty Latinas signifies a. someone who leans left (booty), and b. a progressive willing to date outside their own race (assuming he’s not also Latino).
A progressive / Democrat / liberal / lefty can also date PAWGs, big booty Black women, etc. and be perfectly happy.
A Republican will only date someone within their ethnicity 95%+ of the time (some exceptions exist, but it’s relatively rare), and they ALWAYS prefer big mommy milkers, caring very little, or naught at all, for booties.
So there you go. This is 100% anecdote, but one day, I guarantee, the research and science will back me up on this, as soon as someone conducts it.
In the meantime, think about all the straight men you know in your life, and think about their partners. You’ll begin to notice the pattern. Some exceptions, sure, but a pattern nonetheless.
As of yet inconclusive: whether or not “horseshoe theory” applies to any of this. I’ll need more samplings from Leftist authoritarians to compare against Left-liberals, Left-libertarians, and Left-anarchists. More data needed.
This is 100% anecdote, but one day, I guarantee, the research and science will back me up on this, as soon as someone conducts it.
What’s stopping you? Haven’t you heard that the only difference between science and screwing around is writing things down? Start screwing around and writing down your findings!
Progressive here.
I’m a boobs guy and never have I dated outside my ethnic group
I think of myself as a progressive and I like both. But my country is like 99% white so I don’t get to play outside my group either :(
I’m a boobs guy and never have I dated outside my ethnic group
Yet,
Anecdote disproves unsubstantiated opinion.
Science!
Cons:
No science points were generated
Pros:
Talked about some boobs
Conclusive

You other brothers can’t deny it
What’s mensa
I went to college with a kid who introduced himself to the class as a Mensa member on day 1. it was a logics class.
halfway through the semester I argued my point logically against him in a debate in front of the class and won. he was embarrassed as fuck and as red as a tomato. he was so pissed that he lost against me because he believed I was inferior to him.
my tactic was to get him emotionally flustered on his stance, which he vehemently believed in, and argue logical arguments regardless of their logical context to his stance.
for example if his stance was “all abortions are wrong.” my argument was, “if abortions are wrong and death is wrong then abortions that save life are right because abortions don’t kill people. so if abortions don’t kill people all abortions are right.” cue up a tit for tat back and forth for 15 minutes and I win the debate point for point.
anyway, we didn’t see him for the rest of the semester and he dropped out entirely.
I kinda feel bad a bit because it was clear he was on the spectrum and I used that to my advantage but the dude was a dick.
point is Mensa is a dick stroking competition and you’re better off avoiding it.
This is a fun story but I have to ask, what’s your definition of people if you say abortions don’t kill people? Couldn’t this guy have attacked you easily at that point?
I know nothing about debating or logics, so just wondering.
Glad you made him cry though
Claims “high IQ”, holds right wing views.
God that prickly sounds insufferable.
To be fair, debate classes often involve arguing for positions you’re personally opposed to.
I know, but this wasn’t the case
my tactic was to get him emotionally flustered on his stance, which he vehemently believed in, and argue logical arguments regardless of their logical context to his stance.
it wasn’t a debate class. the debates were merely a vessel to convey the logical process. we took time to dissect each of the arguments, which were written before hand and shared with the class. just as the “debate” took place. the rules were pretty simple
- teams were identified early, so you knew who you were debating
- topics were identified at the same time.
- write as many arguments(“ammo”) as you can think of on one sheet of paper(front and back)
- use one class period to work through the logical arguments to ensure they are logically sound, can use the aid of the teacher
- you can only use your “ammo” and cannot deviate from it or make new ones up on the spot
- if you run out of “ammo” or cannot use the “ammo” you have you must concede
so before the debate I already knew the topic and person I was going against. I already profiled him and knew if I overwhelmed him there was no way I’d lose. my arguments weren’t factually backed, but logically sound. I don’t know how many arguments I wrote, but it was probably at least 50. all with varying degrees of potential that could be used against anything he could throw at me. god, Jesus, Satan, whores, sluts, incest, rape. all of it was there.
he brought a knife to a gun fight and I beat the shit out of him with a baseball bat.
the teacher actually approached me after the semester and commented that I seemed to have a deep understanding of logical thought and I should probably pursue a career in software or become a paralegal. it was his last semester teaching there and I’d like to think I made it memorable 😅. it still is one of my favorite classes in college. a close second and third were my classes in psychology and sociology.
Mensa is “the high IQ society”. Take that how you will, membership is mostly used for bragging rights and/or being pretentious.
It’s like anything if you are of the right social class being members of the right clubs can open certain doors for you. Political parties like to hear that you are in Mensa.
The impression I get is that it was more relevant before the internet. Like, you’d be living in bumfuck Nebraska and take an IQ test in high school to see if you should be a trucker or farmer, and then a couple weeks later you get a letter asking if you wanna be part of a club of smart people who have a magazine and meet every once in a while.
It’s irrelevant. It’s douche nozzle central.
It looks good on college applications. But don’t join their clubs
damn i guess it’s secret information
i love being left outIt’s an organization or club or something where the criteria for joining is having an IQ above whatever their minimum is. (Like 120 or something maybe?)
98th percentile which should mean 130 but tests differ so who knows really
Doubt you’d find either in a Mensa subreddit.
I don’t think there is a correlation in either directed but I’m happy to be proven wrong
